Any DIY pedal builders on TB? Strut your stuff!

Finally finished this one up.VT with a clean blend. I had my own pcbs made and had errors that had to be worked out. Forgot a trace. The decals is clear vinyl but it’s not crystal clear unfortunately. Relay bypass. It was inspired by another member on here. It was actually his idea , I just brought it to life. Great idea, it sounds FI nominal. This one might find a place on my board permanently. I really like the blend.

PedalPCB's Captian Bit. The build was pretty straightforward, except I used a different style DC connector and wired up the wrong lug (so what's shown in the picture is wrong) I made the logos like the double stripe insignia for a Army Captain. The case is the OD powdercoat from Tayda

The LED is a NOS mil-spec JAN. The housing is anodized aluminum, so that's pretty cool. It's a little too dim on 9V though.

How does it sound? Pretty cool, but it doesnt track very well on the lower strings. The Filter control changes the sound quite a bit, there are several useful settings. It would probably work really well on guitar.

Nice clean work, great job.
 
Effects Layouts December sessions
Top left: JetPack (similiar to Maxon 880 and DOD 250). I've modded this three times already and it might go back under the iron again for more modding. Mods; C12 is 100uF,C4 socket with 470nF, C5 & C6 100nF, C8 10uF. Kid painted rainbow and clouds.
Top right: Hot BOD (similar to DOD fx91 BOD). Very grindy and fizzy overdrive with a blend to balance it for bass guitar. Painted gloss yellow base coat with bronze and gold.
Bottom left: Elemental OD ( similiar to EHX Germanium OD). Used a silicon 2N4403 in Q1. This was a surprise! Very nice mild overdrive with unusual controls. Kid painted "space heart".
Bottom right: SpottedDick (similiar to Prunes & Custard). I've built this on stripboard and liked it enough to build another on a quality pcb. Crazy octave fuzz filter, laser beams and light saber sounds. Painted gloss black with silver squares.

i'm pretty much done with germanium transistor builds, managed to barely scrounge up 3 suitable ones from a bunch of 20 AC128s and OC75s.

Took this gut shot before realising Q1 had fallen out of its socket ._.

Looks awesome. Why is there insulation around that resistor on the bottom left of the board. It looks like it is floating and cutting across the in/out jack.

Tidy wiring! Out of curiousity, what are you using for shielded wire on you input/output and how in the heck do you keep from melting the insulation when soldering the shield onto the ground lug on the jacks?

I fixed it, the changes are:
C4 1.5n > 68n
R1 1Meg > 500K
R10 10K > 20K trimmer set to 18K

Bringing the highpass down to 4Hz from 106Hz helped a ton.
It was having periodic artifacts every 4th wave. After the highpass edit, it went away but I was now getting some buckling on the peak every wave.
R10 to tweak the release time smooths that out.

I was also ready to increase C6 but it sounded good enough.


I've been pondering the "fix" i made for the Love Squeezer compressor to fit the bass, and I realised that what I did was incomplete. I've documented all my findings here:

Long story short, there are 2 more high passes in the circuit that work at 72Hz and need to be brought down lest they do weird stuff to your signal between low E and D.

It truly does sound good enough as is. So i'm conflicted about taking it apart just to tweak it some more. We'll see.

The insulation doesnt shrink back because its extruded Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP), which is a variant of teflon and has a very high temperature range. I also have a lot of experience soldering, so that helps.

I have the shield extend out past the board, then I cut it and the outer jacket and use a little heat shrink to keep it tidy. The inner conductor then connects to the switch board. The ground to the circuit is the green wire.
 
Curious, did you have problems with a real Love Squeeze or a copy? Having had a real one, it always sounded really great so I’m not familiar with the problems you fixed.
I experienced problems with the copy I built.
It's strange because some people don't get the same issue, no way to know why for sure unless i get to probe their pedals.

That looks so neat, stunning actually. Does the shielding actually make a difference?
I've used silicone wires before, they don't melt back too, plus they're really flexible and easy to route. I gotta get me more of those.
