My good friends from the band Admiral Angry just put out their first debut full length not too long ago. I wanted to see what you guys thought about the bass tone on the recording. He used a Gallien Krueger Head with Ampeg 410 E cab. I was also curious as to who or if any of you find their music as enjoyable as I do.

If you like bands like Will haven, The Melvins, Helmet, Eyehategod, Meshuggah etc... I think this is definitely worth checking out. Theres a good chance you all might hate the harsh screech like vocals but i think it's what makes them sound unique. Anyways, love it or hate it I just want to see how you all feel about the music.

I didn't like Bug Vomit so much- the sound was a little too crunchy for me (ie not sludgy enough). That said, the other songs were good, but something just rubs me the wrong way about the screeching vocals in doom metal. Gotta save those for black metal

The music is great...vocals ain't my thing though and seem out of place sometimes. I wouldn't classify that as doom though. It's pretty unique with some doom elements but has more of a drone-y technical feel to it. And especially if you're comparing it to a band like Meshuggah (which isn't a bad comparison at all).

PS...what kind of loser bands don't accept friend requests from other bands?!?! :confused:

Well the reason i say doom is because first off, I didn't want to sound like a total turd by categorizing it as "heavy metal" which I thought in most cases would be taken the wrong way by people here on talkbass. Second, this is music where the heaviness obviously comes from "the riff" instead of cheesy nonsensical palm mutes or breakdowns that sub-genres of metal/core have to offer. I guess what I'm trying to say is that i mentioned doom on talkbass because i knew that anybody who knows what real doom is, would listen to this and think... ok cool this isn't just another heavy band, and there are actual grooves which many bands today couldn't replicate.

About the vocals, i think they fit this band's attitude and sound perfectly. Every band that tries to be "heavy" has some big macho dude who belches out super low growls, which I like for certain bands. But i think those vocals get boring real quick. These vocals have so much emotion behind them and it really makes you feel uncomfortable how hard he's letting everything come out. It's the fact that so many people say "Oh my god that sounds awful" makes this band so in your face. No 17 year old kid with a scene haircut/eyeliner who thinks slam dancing is cool will dare listen to this band. you know why? cause this music isn't pretty sounding, nice to listen to with your girlfriend or have parts where him and his friends can do backflips together in a pit. Just think of Mike Williams of Eyehategod and how his harsh sounding vocals fit perfectly well with the bands balls-out riffs and you'll get why I think Admiral Angry does it right.

The drums are really Melvins influenced with some technicality that resembles Meshuggah as well, and then at times if you listen to how slow this band dares to go, you'll know what aspect of doom I'm talking about. It's also true about the drone-y thing you mentioned. I have a project band with the guitarist that we just started that's really SunnO))) Khanate influenced. I guess you could check it out if you've got time to waste...

Also Its understandable if you don't like the name. It's just I've been such good friends with these guys for so long and this bands been around since i was in middleschool (6 years maybe?) so I've always dug the name.

I seriously dig the vocals. I also wouldn't call most of it doom, but you can hear the doom influence in it. It's almost like slowed down tech or grind... I don't know. It's good.

Unfortunately, most of the bass doesn't come through too well on the crappy computer speakers I'm listening on. OTOH, what I do hear has a mid-frequency bump that is sitting pretty well in the mix. Audible but not pronounced and slightly burpy, which is cool for the genre.

I don't know that I'd call Admiral Angry doom, but I can hear it a bit in their music. Awesome stuff. Unique too. I've seen them on other bands pages, and have meant to check them out. Thanks for sharing.

And while I'm here, I'll recommend a band. A lot closer to the doom genre IMO and probably one of the heaviest bands I've ever heard. Black Sheep Wall...

Ah man, i was hoping nobody would say that haha. All of my best friends are in both these bands. black sheep wall and admiral shared the same bassist for the longest time up until just recently when bsw vocalist decided he would rather have someone else play bass. The drummer of bsw left the band too probably less than a week ago cause of all this and to be honest that band is a mess right now. They had a UK tour planned in November (cancled) which was around the same time they wanted to kick out their bassist and have me join the band. I jammed with them once and realized I'd rather not be in a band where being a flake plays a larger role than the music itself. Especially when you could easily be kicked out for not getting along with ONE person in the band, when the rest of the people you've know for YEARS. If they don't call it quits in the next month or so, there will be a entirely new line up except for the original guitar and vocalist. Anyways i don't mean to fart on your post if you sincerely like the band, I know they're all talented musicians. I had previous separate musical projects with both guitarists and drummer as well, but at the same time i know that musicianship plays a big role in making a band work and sometimes people are just in it for the wrong reasons. If you like bsw a lot though, I think you should check out the band they had before they changed the name to what it is now and got a new singer.

This band and admiral pretty much summed up high school for my group of friends haha.

Then came the thrash/punk band we started with the same drummer and guitarist that we never expected to go anywhere cause of our horrible recording and bsw getting more recognition.

No the original singer has been back for a while now, they had the singer and guitarist from this band ( Link Removed ) fill in for a little while but ended up kicking them both out and getting the guy on the i am god songs recording back. Sorry for saying 'guy' and 'dude' so much, I'm just trying not to name drop over the net haha
