Any nylon tapewound fans?

Not strictly true. Both RAs (Deep 4 and Solid 4) I have were set up for and shipped with Rotos by Rob; they never had the LaBella strings on them. If you want to hear my Deep 4 with Rotos, go here:

Take into account my D4 had its neck reinforced while it was being made to support the bottom four of that five string set to be able to have high action.

I have the fender ones and I dig the sound.. currently they aren't on any of my basses because the tone just doesn't fit but I'm looking (passively) for a Fretless P Bass to throw them on... they sound like rediculously high quality rubber bands to my ears and I like it

Ahh sorry ... I didn't mean he only sets up his basses for labellas, I mean for any given bass, he will set it up for whichever strings the user specifies (be that labellas, rotos, fenders). In my case it's labellas, so I wonder how much difference the Rotos will make ? New or modified nut ? New or modified bridge (for height) ?

You couldn't do what I did (bottom four of the five) without any mods, but the regular RS88 set which is 65 - 115 is basically the same as the 760N set (60 - 115). You may need to have the nut modified a little for certain strings, but Rob's bridge is what it is.

Action and sound are subjective. I used the 760Ns once, but didn't like them. Sonically the 760Ns and RS88s won't be so dissimilar IMO. Clearly I'm a Roto guy, but compare my clip to what you get on your Deep, and you'll get a sense of any difference.

I use Labella 760N nylon tapewounds on several instruments. I love the feel and the tone.

I tried the recent Fender tapes but not I'm not much of a fan, but I have a set of old Fender tapes (red silk wrapping) that I keep on one bass, and they work very well together.

I find the GHS to be a bit brighter and articulate without giving anything up on the bottom end. The GHS nylons are less expensive.

The GHS are a little brighter because they are a roundwound string wrapped in a nylon tape. Labella's & Rotosounds are flatwounds wrapped in tape thus they are warmer tonally.

The GHS is a nice string though.

I've got a Hofner CT bass. I'm shopping for strings. As far as I can tell, the only short scale tapes that don't have an E string gauge coming in at .115 is GHS. Anyone know of any other tapes with an E close to .100 or less?
