Any Squier Bronco fans / haters out there?

I must be getting spoiled by light weight basses. There's a new Bronco at the local GC store that's been sitting for quite a while.

I picked it up and was shocked at the weight. Felt like lifting a bag of rocks - LOL (maybe not quite that bad).

Easy to see why that one's not selling.

I just compared my Bronco (8 lbs, 4 oz) vs my American Special (8 lbs, 7 oz.) I'm surprised it was that close, but the Bronco has full size tuners and a Schaller Bassbucker, so that probably accounts for some of the extra pork. I don't really have an issue with any sub 10 pound bass, but I did expect the Bronco to be lighter than that...

Sorry, guys - I don't mean to hijack the thread, but does anyone here know the neck pocket dimensions on the Bronco bass? I've been looking to find a maple neck to fit (or tweak to fit) my SS Squier VM Jag and I've had no luck finding those dimensions. I was told I'd need to move the bridge because of the fret difference, but I don't mind if it's not too far of a move.

I'm doing some other mods and looking at some other necks also - there's a few SS blanks on ebay and SX is an option, but I'd feel better using a Squier. I'd be grateful to anyone who knows the Bronco numbers or has any ideas on other neck alternatives that won't cost twice the price of the Jag.

As someone who plays nothing USA Fenders, am I likely to find the difference huge? Tone-wise, I'm 100% dusty dead-string fingerstyle and it seems like these would cope with that fairly well.

Well, I tried one today, and unfortunately it was not a good one. The action was horrible and the intonation was way out, which made a bad first impression. And yes, those stock strings were 2 years old and they were absolutely horrible. So not a good start, but I could have lived with those things. However, the bass was surprisingly heavy, and in fact it was very neck heavy. The neck itself was covered in scratches, but the fretwork was fine, no sprout at all. The tone was probably the worst thing about it - the weakest, most nondescript tone I've heard in a long time. Not even close to the Bronco tone I heard on a YT video. So I guess it was one of the bad ones. Like any bass, I'm sure it could be made to be a decent player, but the combination of all these things made me decide against it.

The modded Broncos in this thread are great on the other hand!

I got mine through Sweetwater it's beautiful. I loved modding it. Get a Dragonfire Duo Rail unbelievable great pick up unbelievable price get them on eBay man you can't believe this thing it makes that bronco so competitive it's unreal

Check out my red one above! New Bridge/ brass saddles Hipshot Tuning Machines Ebony Knobs "Dragonfire Pickup (great) and I gave it the Black Treatment. It will keep up
And Surpass!! I've been playing 52 years and owned many many Basses, especially Precisions. American. This is a great bass to own and mod.

That Bronc look great with the black hardware and strings! What tuners do you have on there, if I might ask?

Any chance anyone would be so kind as to take a measurement of the neck width where it meets the pocket? I can't find that info anywhere and it would be very much appreciated.

Bronco Neck Pocket Dimensions:
At top of pocket (toward headstock)
2 1/8" at bottom of neck at last
Fret 2 1/4" the pocket is about 4 1/4" long. It does seem to be the long values. (Read slightly larger) and this was done with my neck installed. Hope this helps.
