Learn to subdivide the beat, regardless of tempo. Formally-trained percussionists are taught to subdivide down to 16ths or more, and even other instrumentalists have the eighth notes drilled into them in school bands. As a bassist, you're just as much a rhythm source as the drummer, so a good sense of time is very important.
Along the same lines, practicing basic stuff like scales alongside a metronome at slow speeds is also good practice. Record your practice and play it back to see what's going on; you may think you're right on the beat while playing, but listening back may reveal you're lagging or jumping the gun.
