Any Wet-Shavers Out There?

Bronner's soap is the best for a brush. I use the bar but I bet the liquid's fine.
I've yet to get a safety razor because my current disposable head razor works just fine. I trim around a beard and the few times I ever go clean shaven isn't worth the new razor and pack of blades.
When I can't get blades for this razor I'll be going to a safety razor.

I wet shave with both a straight razor and a 1940s superspeed. I use a Semogue 1305 for my brush and Cella for my soap.
Whoever suggested Badger and Blade was absolutely right- it is the shaving equivalent of talkbass in terms of information and genuinely good people, and they even have their own classifieds section so that you can get good deals on all sorts of gear. Shaving GAS is a real thing, watch out for it!
Also search Mantic59 on youtube and watch ALL of his videos- they are invaluable to a new wetshaver.

I've been using a standard Gillette for years now... but since i've started shaving my head, the Fusion blades are just to damned expensive, so i've been looking into a starter kit for wet shaving. I've been having some fun reading over at Link Removed and taking their advice.
I like straight razor's...except I don't own one. :/ I'm fine with the Gillette safety razors..which aren't even "safe".

So yeah, besides the straight razor part, i really like bay rum shaving soap by Col. Conk products, Amber isn't bad either, i stick with bay rum because its the smell of my aftershave as well.
Badger brush all day, just go to the store and see which one feels the best.
I really like that aftershave but it does make you smell a little bit like an old man. Very old school smell, i like it though. I also never had any girls say anything negative about the smell.
Get yourself a bowl for the soap, it's well worth it. Mine is a bit bigger then soap so soap moves around a bunch, not a huge deal but next one i get will be exact size of the soap.
One thing, make sure you always dry it, I am not sure about safety razors but straight razors can rust up pretty easy. I haven't had any problems but i heard from shop i go to that some get very rusty.
Also, find a small cutlery shop, those are the best, they will give you honest opinion. I got one near me, it's tiny but selection is always great and very nice people that are honest with you. it's been around since 1960's. I buy that aftershave from them too and it seems that i always got last bottle and it's the only aftershave they got. One time, man that owns the place saw me buy it, came up to me and said: "uh, you like it too, guess i gotta order more now because only reason i have it here is because i use it and you seem to buy it before i need to." I guess he just orders a bottle of it once every month or so for himself and keeps on the shelf. Next time i was in there he had 2 bottles on the shelf.

I just used up the last of my "The Art of Shaving" stuff last month ... damn is that stuff expensive. My wife gets me this brand as gifts cause she likes the original smell. I like the stuff but it's a premium price. I use the Fusion blades on my razor, but I'm a fan of shaving soap with the Badger Hair brush, and have been for decades.
I tried every conceivable type of razor and always had problems with sensitivity/nicks. I eventually stopped using lather of any kind and my problems went away. Nowadays I sport a full beard, but when I clean it up, I use a good quality razor and plain water.
Just thought i would resurrect this thread!
For years i was unable to shave with a cartridge razor or an electric as it would just tear my face up and leave me covered of pimples and ingrown hair the next day.
Because of that i had a goatee for years and just used a hair trimmer to keep it shortish and would just trim my cheeks to as short as i could get with the trimmer.
Got bored of the whole goatee thing and decided to have a go at shaving again with a safety razor!
Got myself a Merkur HD, a blade sample pack (using the derby right now), some DR Harris soap and a Kent badger brush.
I can now shave every other day without getting the slightest irritation! This feels like magic...
Yes it does take a bit more time but it is actually enjoyable, i do it in two passes (one with the grain, one across) and get great results.
I can't help but think it is strange how technology/marketing has actually made something great worst! For me this is a great example of something that got fixed when it wasn't broken in the first place!
No one needs 5 blades and a vibrating razor...
Problem is that now i have bad Razor gas! I really want to get myself an old Gillette slim or Fat Boy.... Must Stay Away From Evil Bay!

Mach3 and Barbasol, in the shower. Contemplating making the jump to a safety razor.

Proraso shaving soap, badger brush and either a Rolls Razor or Gillette Tech with Feather blades. Cut myself more with the safety razor than the Rolls.
I usually use a Muhle R41; although, sometimes I use my Merkur 34c. I prefer Astra blades. I find that they get almost as close as Feather blades, but they are overall smoother than Feathers, IME. Plus, I can get a 100 pack off of Amazon for like $10.
My wife started making her own scrub for her legs and feet... Coconut Oil is one of the ingredients ... used it for preshave oil with some Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shave Gel kicking around under the sink ... This combo worked great ... and she has a whole jar of the stuff.

Wet shaving is the bees knees. About a decade ago, I switched from disposables to straight and double edged razors to cut down on waste and improve the overall shaving experience.
Currently, I alternate between straight razor (Feather, Dovo) and double edge (Merkur). I like Feather blades, especially the Black series, but Merkur or Astra blades are fine as well. I strop my straights with an old belt a few times a week, and they work flawlessly. Any and all face products for before/after shave are from Taylor of Bond Street. I also use a synthetic brush (Omega), as I see no reason for a badger to die to indulge my vanity.
