@gttim: How do you like that shaving cream? Does it have a scent? Thats what I've heard, you just let the weight of the razor do the cutting.

I use gillete Mach 3 With disposable blades. I use cetaphil soap and warm water because of my sensitive and acne prone skin.

I'm using the Parker 90R safety razor (Amazon.com: Parker 90R - Long Handle Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor and 5 Shark Super Chrome Blades: Health & Personal Care) and Edwin Jagger's sea buckthorn shave soap (Amazon.com: Edwin Jagger 99.9% Natural Traditional Shaving Soap Refill - Sea Buckthorn, 2.3-Ounce: Health & Personal Care). It smells good. By that, I mean it doesn't smell flowery or perfume-y. It smells masculine and clean. My razor is not adjustable, so I just install the razor and start shaving. I am currently using a boar bristle brush I found at Walgreen's, though I wand to go up to a silverhair badger brush eventually. I'm not sure what the advantage of badger is, but they have nice handles, and the plastic cheapy I'm using doesn't.

I actually enjoy shaving with the Parker and shave soap, whereas it was a pain-in-the-arse chore with disposables and canned foam.

Edit: I also bought a nice wooden bowl (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000068U49/ref=oh_o03_s00_i01_details) to put the shave soap in. I need a razor/brush stand next.

Ok cool, I'm familiar with that razor. I had looked at those Edwin Jagger Soaps, they sure look nice. But I just wondered how they smelled. I'll have to try the Buckthorn, and it seems like sandalwood is another popular one.

I have very sensitive skin as well. I switched to Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Razor recently with great results. In addition, I use Camay or Oil of Olay bar soap as a shaving aid in the shower. I wash my hair/face first with liquid baby soap/bar soap so by the time I shave, my beard is a bit softer. I rub the bar directly on my beard.

I let the blade vibration do its thing as I gently pull the razor. Super close shave without the burn or redness. No "lollipop" face. After a few shaves, I pull the razor more slowly to account for the dulling of the blade. About 10 shaves max. for me. The bar soap works very well as a shaving lubricant. I've been using it for many years. Your skin is always soft and smooth. No skin burn for the ladies!:

For almost 50 years I've shaved with a blade. I doubt I've used an electric more than ten times. For that whole length of time, my shaving cream has been Old Spice Classic (very difficult to get these days). My preferred razor is the Gillette Sensor Excel. I can't get into these 4- and 5-blade cartridges they have now.

Edwin Jagger Cheltham with Feather or Precision blades, Cyril Salter badger hair brush & the much loved EJ Seabuckthorn soap & after shave. I`have also used Geo. Trumper & Proraso products but the EJ stuff seems to work better for me.

Aussie wet shaver here!!

Changed from electric about 2 years ago and will never go back..

Was using a Mekur but stumbles across some nice old 1940's Gillette Aristocrats a while back... I now have 2 of them (one's in my travel bag all packed and ready to go)..

Feather or Personna blades mostly, Bought a couple of sampler packs and now I've got about 50 blades sitting around that I'll never use You can't beat Feathers once you get your technique right..

Badger brush & Italian Omega soap (must track down some more of that)..

I only shave once or twice a week (girly man )... I use it as a bit of quality "Me" time..

I've been using a Gillette safety razor since 1986. Same one, even. Tried a straight razor, loved the shave, but too much maintenance involved.

Got my brush and cream in last night, first wet shave was to day and I can already notice a huge difference. My skin is less irritated, it cut closer, and my face generally feels much more refreshed.

For the record, I was previously using a Schick Hydro 3 and Gillette sensitive shave cream, since those 2 are touted as the "best supermarket products" for sensitive skin. I'm still using Hydro 3 cartridges but come to find out the aerosol and other gases in every can still cause irritation, even on the products specifically targeting those of us with sensitive skin. I'm still using Nivea sensitive post-shave balm but will be looking at an alternative for that once I'm out.

And maybe I'll bite bullet and grab a safety razor later on down the road, too, but for now I'm definitely sold on the brush and cream/soap approach.

Yeah-----I have used a safety razor all my shaving life. Sometimes I use soap to lather, half the time I dry shave (Army habit to make formation on time ). Sometimes I'll get a can of Barbasol--(cheap and REALLY good shaving cream). Preferred after shave: traditional Old Spice.

Now I think of my first hair cream (or should I say hair GREASE since being "slicked down" was the thing to do in the 1950's) as a little kid: Wildroot (if anyone remembers it)
