Well, the first place I checked said 2000. I can't remember the site but this one http://www.guitardaterproject.org/Yamaha.aspx says 1998. I checked another one and it also said 1998. Just do some Googling and dating them is a fairly easy process.

My BB300 is the top of the ol' heap! Looks like hell, but I'll never get rid of it! Those Motion B's look cool too.
I have 4 BB's now (1600, 1200. IV (Japanese market only) and a retrofitted 300). I've had others in the past (1500, 1100s, another retrofitted 300, 450 & 1000) Absolutely love Yamaha BB basses, but generally prefer different pick-ups in them. My retrofitted BB300 with Fralin pickups is for sale now on TB! Check it out.
got this from a kid off cl..lotsa dings , scratches all over..a large pockmark near the knobs..missing 1 knob..1 tuner didn't match..ugly green slimy glob of a guitar..ugly..but plugged into an amp..the voice...just beautiful..a pbass on steroids..
got a matching tuner from another guy off cl..and everything now is in harmony with the world.. Yamaha bb1200s bass..neckthru..active/passive..maple/walnut body..just a nice bass..
This ^!!! I love my bbeast! Tone and playability to the max. Here's my yamaha, over 10yr old and still plays, feels and looks like new!

I have two basses, and they're both Yamaha...Outstanding instruments at every single price point. Other manufacturers could learn a lot from them!

The blue in this bass is really hard to photograph accurately. The natural sunlight in that shot really brings out the colour.
This is my BB414:
I got this for an absolute steal, and its fantastic. I bought it as a "backup" bass but honestly, its so good that sometimes the TRB gets relegated to the position of second choice!

A BBN-5 lives in one of my closets. I want to swap the pickups to something a bit more "vintage" sounding. Maybe some day....
I found this short scale at a pawn shop years ago. I've searched the web for info on it and have come up short. It only has the Yamaha log on the headstock, and a four digit serial number carved into the fretboard at the top of the nec.
I've seen similar old Yamahas with two pickups (from the early 70s, I beleive), but never just one, so I'm not sure what model this is or when it was made. The only If anyone has any info, I'd love to see it...

Love the build quality and feel - never dug the stock electronics in either. The BBN5 has a single EMG 40DC and BT preamp. The BBEAST has two EMG 45JX and a BQ preamp.

Dude, I really like what you did with the black tuners! I can see that a black bridge would look awesome. Now you have me playing with ideas on what I can do to sort of upgrade/update the look on my bbeast. Not that I don't like the gold look but modernizing it a little wouldn't look bad.
for the longest time i had a sort or prejudice against yamaha, thinking "yamaha? they make everything, there's no way the could make a good bass/guitar". well, i was wrong. last year i stumble across a used rbx350, played it for a bit and bought it. i didnt have a truss rod tool for it, but once i got one and set it up with some light gauge boomers, it's a very solid sounding, feeling and playing bass. looked up the serial number and it way made in '92. the frets were in good enough shape that i could drop the action down to around .8mm with very minimal buzz, pretty impressive for an import beater bass.
I love my Yamaha.....

I had "borrowed" this very model RBX270 for a very short 15 minute set with my old band, as I didn't have my bass on me at the time. I couldn't believe how much of a step up the tone was compared to my 170. Unbelievable grindy piano like sound. The quality of the instrument was a huge step up as well... and all for only $100 extra above the 170
A BB1200 in 1980 was my first 'real' bass, even though I was replacing a stolen Gibson G3.
I added EMGs and a jazz bridge pickup and played it for 15+ years as my main bass. I still have it.
Along the way I had a few other Yamahas, including a first generation TRB6p that is in my short list of basses I wish I'd kept.
