Anybody into the band SAGA?

I know Saga inside out, musical osmosis courtesy of my Dad.
Humble Stance has to be one of the catchiest songs ever.

The singer recently left (Michael Sadler?), you can get his farewell gig on DVD, it's quite emotional.

I agree with you opinion of "Humble Stance". Again, if you haven't heard the album (and title track) from 2006's TRUST check it out - it's a well written, catchy album.

I will look for the DVD - I have the last live CD SAGA did when they knew that Michael was going to leave the band. I've seen two different live shows and heard a 3rd...SAGA is amazing live, they pull of every note!

Thanks for the DVD tip.

I always liked Saga.

I saw them open for Billy Squire and they totally rocked. The singer played bass on some songs, he also played some rototoms with the drummer during the drum solo. Those guys knew how to deliver a great show (so did Billy Squire).

Frank Marino is one of my favorite guitarists. I saw him twice, when he opened for Nazareth and Triumph. He was supposed to play at the very first concert I ever attended. Aerosmith was the headliner and the first act was a band nobody had ever heard of called AC/DC. Frank was the middle act but fractured his hand and could not play the show.

He was wondering why he had never heard it before, and I explained that govt. regulations state that 35% of broadcasted content must be Canadian in origin.

Similar law in France, 40% of the stuff on the radio has to be in French language, but unfortunately it has not translated into good music, lots of crap, teeny female singers that are very nice to look at, as long as you turn the volume down (and, alas, lots of Céline -en francais).

I used to be a HUGE Saga nut back in the early/mid 80's, great musicians, good writing (usually).

I was fortunate to see them twice in New Orleans and once in Orlando.

My favorite record was Behavior..."Catwalk" is a great song.

Haven't thought about them in years...

I have the Worlds Apart CD in the car right now. I also own Behaviour ('85) and Security of Illusion ('93 -- much harder and more guitar-driven). To me they were always borderline 'prog-rock'. Excellent musicians and great writing, though.

The act I'm in now does "On the Loose". Everytime we play it people go nuts. I brought up another tune along the same lines for the act to play, a tune by HEAD EAST off the "Flat as a Pancake" LP called "Never Been any reason". Catchy tune as well.

Saga is a great band. I only own the "Worlds Apart" CD but am now going to check out the entire collection.

I have been a huge Saga fan since I bought their first album in 1978. Great stuff. Check out their first albums and the production and songs are well done. Their current drummer, Brian Doerner, is from the band Helix. I am into lots of Canadian bands and have traveled to Canada well over 50 times. It is a shame that many of the Canadian groups have not received the attention in the U.S. they deserve.

The Saga website has audio and video clips.

A guy I know from Canada has a website dedicated to Canadian bands past and present. It is definitely worth a visit.
