ANYONE BOIL STRINGS?

Would you care to post a picture of the PVC pipe that you using? I'm trying to get an idea of how to make this as efficient as possible so that I don't have to use too much alcohol.

Methanol is quite toxic.

If you're gona soak your strings, I'd recommend some other solvent.

Uh you don't drink it, you soak your strings in it....

That’s awesome! I think bassists are the mad scientists of the music field. We tinker and toy with things and figure out the best way for something to work because we have a natural inclination to solve problems; hence our being bassists and being central to the sound of any band.

I do that too. Especially now that I can actually afford new strings and I’m not just a student/struggling musician as I was back in the day.

I boil my strings
But these glarry basses...I have three now...two for over a year now ..other than just wiping it down after playing ..the strings still have their brightness...I'm really impressed with these strings

I've never boiled strings. I usually get about 2.5 ish months out of a set when I play a lot. My go to rounds cost about 23 bucks shipped so I just buy new ones.

I used to boil my strings when I was younger and money was tight. It helps bring more life into the strings so they last longer. But at this point in my life, I can't be bothered

When I was a poor college student in the early to mid 90's, I boiled my strings. I'd buy a set of Dean Markley Blue Steel.... and I could boil them 2-3 times, before they were completely dead. Blue Steels were the best strings back then, IMO.

when i was a poor college student i used to eat old strings when i couldn't afford food. string sandwiches, fried strings, green eggs and strings. years later i still have a taste for sting soup. yum
