Anyone check out a blacktop jazz yet?

These will be gone in virtually no time and enter the huge gallery of Fender basses that didn't make it...

Does that mean they'll get super cheap?

I'm very curious as to how this bass sounds with the bridge pickup soloed.

Would it be too thin/quiet?

I think it sounds better when the P pups are reversed so closer to bridge side is the E&A side. Cause solo'd the bridge pup tends to get overly trebly sounding on the D&G strings. With pup replacement with dimarzios etc you got adjustable pole peices and so can lower then a bit on that side to tame treble a tad. Most often with P bridge and neck sets one does both pups to neck pup solo rather then Bridge solo. Output for bridge pup is no diff then any other type of bridge pup volume wise.

For sound examples of dual P's just check out your fave bands whose bass player uses BC Rich basses with neck and bridge set. Which is the larger percentage of them.

Bridge pickup solo'd should be close enough to a regular Jazz bridge pickup, but with a more P-type tone. Kinda obvious, really.

I wasnt sure. I saw on the Fender site that they were listed now and heard that the bigger retailers (GC, musiciansfriend, AMS) were getting them in so I just thought Id ask.

They were only announced May 19th, less than two months ago. So you can't say "months" yet.

I'm pretty interested in trying the dual p setup myself. I'm not one to solo a bridge pup in the first place; if it sounds good with the neck solo'd and both pups on, I might just get one.

Not too keen on the look of dual-P basses, plus I don't like having the treble coil so close to the bridge (reverse coil P's might be cool though), but I did find this, which is called a Fender Blacktop:

I like the look of that personally, and I like the sound of dual humbuckers. Is this related to this "new" Blacktop that's coming out?

I might trade my MIM stand Jazz for one of these black top jazz, of course I'd have to play one first. I think they look good with the dual P Pups, better than the dual buckers!

So, the Jazz Blacktop has Precision pickups in it, and the Precision Blacktop has dual-coil Jazz pickups? Is that meant to make sense?

This has to be a sign from above!! I recently converted to P-Bass w/flats after playing Jazz w/rounds for years. I was talking with my drummer like 2 nights ago about how I loved the P sound in the mix but truly missed my J body style. Thank you God! And Fender

I want the Jazz in black, then add both covers, a red tort guard, and stacked knobs. I really dig the dual-P/Jazz body combo! It makes for a mod platform that would be a blast to play around with. The only tough decision would be whether to add a thumbrest or not..

+1 to it having a Precision neck though.

The sound clips I've heard were good.
I like the idea of both BlackTop basses, and the price is nice.

My friend with a collection of P/J Fenders has serious wood for these.
It's all about tone, and in my humble opinion the BlackTops probably deliver.

If you don't like the looks for some reason, don't buy them.
Simple as that.
These basses are the result of years of Fender hearing that bass players WANT them.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have bothered.

We'll just have to see how long they survive in the marketplace.
If I played passive, I would snap up the Jazz version ASAP.

I did somethign I said I would never do....bought parts from ReliableFender on ebay!! Don't have a problem with them personally, just think most of their stuff is overpriced.....but anyhoo....My blacktop jazz body in blizzard pearl is currently out for delivery! I'm like Reg0myEgg0, and am a P guy, but have always had a love for the jazz body...so this was perfect!

So its getting EMG HZ's (I really love these for some reason), a Gotoh 201. It will def get a P neck of some sort, but havent' decided on allparts or warmoth (or maple or rosewood for that matter).

I don't suppose anybody knows if the warmoth jazz pickguard w\ the p in the neck postion would fit this bass? The reggie hamilton is further down the body than the blacktop, unfortunately.

I like that they added white as a color option! Now I have to see the silver and white in person to decide which to get!

With the neck pickup soloed it should sound like a P-bass... I am a dual P-pickup nut and have an Elite II and six NJ BC Richs with that pickup configuration. I do agree that reverse is the way to go... it makes the bridge pickup sound so much better.
