Anyone Dressing Up This Year?

No kids in our neighborhood.
First time in many years I've felt like doing anything at work (frankly, living out your existence in a fabric-paneled box is already plenty scary...). So I bought the obligatory bass-player costume (porkpie hat). Pretty sure we're doing nothing at work this year...

I’m not dressing up, but the kids are, of course. And of course I will be taking them on their usual Trick or Treat walk. I still have no idea what they are going to dress up as, though I suspect that my daughter will dress up as one of the characters from Frozen. Glad it's on a Friday this year!

Halloween gig for me too, going as a pimp!

Not dressing up here. And we haven’t had any trick or treaters since the last time we dressed up (years ago). I’d like to think it’s because there’s a big, crazy four-block-long block party up the street, so everyone goes directly there.

But it may be the way we last handed out candy. Picture a round cardboard table big enough for me to sit under with my head sticking out a hole in the top. Nice checkered tablecloth (with the hole, of course), a nice place setting around the hole and my head complete with slicked back hair, white face-paint and closed eyes (completely still), and the candy jar next to my head.

The table setup is just inside the large double doors of our dark Victorian house, set back from the sidewalk with 17 stairs to the front door. It's a little dark inside the house, and a couple candles are burning. The kids come up the stairs, my wife (in vampire costume) throws open the doors, gives the little kids some candy, and invites the bigger kids to come in and grab their own from the candy jar. And just as I hear someone dipping into the candy jar, I’d open my eyes and look at them.

Watching the teenage boys jump back and shriek was priceless. Too old for that stuff now. So who’s going to keep up the tradition?

Yeah; put my uniform on; go to work; get home about 11:30pm like I do every Friday. Wait.. you mean a costume? Some of the other employees will, maybe, but we're not allowed to. I'd probably just wear my white T-shirt with a big bar code and HALLOWEEN COSTUME on the front, anyway...

A few years ago my neighbor dressed up as a scarecrow and sat at the bottom of the steps leading up to his front door. He behaved himself nicely for most of the night until two women with about ten kids in tow headed for the door. As the kids were getting their goodies he reached out and grabbed one of them on the ankle. The woman screamed , her friend screamed and they both took off running down the street leaving behind ten bewildered kids wondering where their moms went. Priceless. His wife ushered the kids back down the street to wherever their moms ended up.

You could also carry a sign offering free mammograms.

Hmmmm.... think I'll write that on the back of the doctors smock. Thanks for the idea. ;)
