Anyone else hate how bulky the Fender Jazz's are?

If there's one thing I hate, it's a bulky instrument. I love the sound of the Fender J's, but I just hate the size. The massive heads gets in the way, I feel uncomfortable on wide necks, and it obstructs movement when putting it on my lap. I guess I'm just a picky bassist...


EDIT: Sorry. This was not a "drive by troll". I posted this at 1 AM EST before I went to bed, and forgot to check it when I got up. I guess it's just "drive by retardation". Or something, I dunno.

I would think the bodies are more bulkier than the necks
although compared to Ibanez SRs I can see where you are coming from

Fender necks aren't necessarily wider but possibly thicker (with the exception of a Geddy Lee flat C profile neck) which is kinda what you want considering the width of the neck at the nut. The only bass I ever played where the neck seems almost too thick would be some of the older Warwicks with the "baseball bat" necks. I actually own one of these but like anything you fingers get used to it after awhile

yeah I know it was the one thing that has stopped me from ever getting one (aside from the electronics)

I am just curious if hes not happy with the width or the thickness of the Jazz neck?
I learned the bulk of my playing on a Jazz so to me its super comfy and I love the neck thickness. Plus the small nut width
is also a plus for me as well.

However thickness and width to me is not as much of an issue as scale length. I cant for the life of me play a 35" scale 4 or 5 string without having numbness or pain in my wrists

I sure hope it's thickness that he's actually concerned about. Pretty sure 1.5" is the narrowest that bass necks get. Unless you go custom I suppose.

With the size of my hands, I'm really surprised I like the thin SR bass necks, but they're so comfortable to play on. The thing plays itself.

My jazz makes my ibby sixer look small, but the neck is definitely small on the jazz. (obviously)

It also feels pretty damn comfortable to me, sitting or standing, despite the 19mm string spacing (which is wide for me, but definitely playable)
