Anyone else hate how bulky the Fender Jazz's are?

I used to like the Fenders a lot, was a real big fan of the P-Bass, but then I scored a Charvel from a pawn shop that had a hot sound. It was quite a bit smaller, though about the same weight, and I didn't like the hard edges on the body so much, but it was much more comfortable to wear on stage, and didn't get in the way of my movement so much. Now I look for slimmer basses. Being on the low-budget side, finding a good one can be tough, but I'm really happy with the ESP LTD B-155DX that I just got.
The new Fender American Jazz Special has a thinner lighter body and a thinner neck. All Jazzes are 1.5" at the nut width which is universally accepted as a narrow neck.
Sadowsky makes Jazzes with a scaled down body which may be just right for you and their Will Lee model has an even narrower neck - 1.45".
All you need is about $3 grande and you're all set!

I'm pretty much hooked on Jazz basses. Got a '73 with a new Warmoth neck and an '09 MIM 5'er. Yeah, the bodies are on the big side but they got that vibe that I love.
I LOVED everything about the American Deluxe Jazz 5'er that I tried out. Just can't justify buying it.

I have relatively small hands and even if I wrap my hand around the neck of my Jazz around the nut, it seems as if my hand devours it.
When I was 135 lbs. (high school) both P's and J's looked huge when I posed in front of a mirror, but after 30 years and 75 lbs. they look little. I also remembering NOT wanting a Jazz cuz the neck seemed so small compared to my '64 P.
I never thought the Jazz was too big, and I musy have weighed all of 150lbs when I got my first one.
If you like everything but the size, Warmoth makes a "Dinky J", a scaled-down Jazz body. It takes a 34" scale neck, and you'd have to research what necks out there feel better AND still fit the Dinky J (Just about anything that fits a Fender bass should fit a Warmoth).
Warmoth also makes a J-style body that will take a 32" and a 30" scale neck, but this is different than the Dinky J, which takes only a 34" scale neck.

I find the Jazz body to be a really good size. I'm in jazz school, and do a lot of ensemble playing sitting down. The Jazz body rests just about perfectly in my lap. The offset body positions the bass so that it's easy to hold in position. I also use a Precision-bodied p/j, and the symmetrical Precision body is just a little less easy to keep in the proper position while sitting.

I've sold several Jazz style basses in the past couple years because of the body size. I'm 6', but slender build and I can't help but feel like the full size Jazz plays me rather than me playing it.
On the other hand a slightly downsized Jazz body works great for me like the non-current MIA Deluxe Jazz V, or a Sadowsky.

You have committed the cardinal sin of saying something bad about a Fender - a Jazz, at that.
I'm with you, to be honest. I find the bodies bulky, the neck I can handle. I've had several jazzes, including a couple of plus models which were smaller. But i sold them all.
but you should ignore the insults from the Fender Moonies. and go your own way. Its not a crime not to like the Jazz Bass to be fair. Not yet anyway.

+1. Whenever I first tried a Jazz bass, I knew immediately that I couldn't play comfortably on a neck that thin. And my hands are downright lilliputian.
