Anyone else not like Ricks?

Maybe it's just me, but I played a couple at a bass intensive course at berklee, and I hated all three of them (different setups by different players) And I can't help thinking that without guys like Lemy they wouldn't be nearly as popular. I hate the "sparky" high tones and that ridiculous pup guard. I understand that it's "vintage" styled by why can't Rickenbacker (sp? too lazy to check) make a modern overhaul or something, get with this millennium?

Just had to get that out!

Why mess with success?? They are back ordered like crazy. Rickenbacker international is making money hand over fist.

I love the PUP cover! Great place to put your hand.

Have you seen the 4004?? It's their more "modern" design. They don't sell as well as the venerable 4003 however.

Just because someone doesn't like them, doesn't mean their not good instruments and aren't selling. It just means that person doesn't care for them.

Love the way they look, hate the way they sound

Yeah, they do look nice.

I don't like the neck on Ric's as I find they're too skinny and I can't get a tone deep enough without major EQing on my amp.

Though, for solo work, I guess they'd be pretty good if they beefed up the neck.

I don't like them at all--looks, tone, or feel.

I've got a moderator on my side, so I think we'll be ok!

As long as we don't get too violent, this can be an adult debate!

Oh, ok, I got a looksie at the 4004, I can definetly deal with that, basically exactly what I was asking for in the OP. Shoulda done a little research!

But I just can't see anyone after 1990 wanting to play one! Unless you're a cover band of course. They look and feel like collector's items, I want a bass that I don't feel the need to baby all the time because I'm afraid of breaking it!

Although I'm sure they're probably quite durable, I just don't get that feeling when i hold one.

I get the feeling that I'm holding a toy and I might snap the neck with my hands.

A MAJORITY elected GW twice also  ....so, what's your point? IF they were modestly priced I'd own one...just cause I like the look. ...but for the money they're getting for it you could add a few hundred and get an AWESOME bass. ;)

...bear in mind I don't distinguish between new and used. :)

As long as the toad licking, orange peal sniffing, dog wrong-way rubbing, orangutan-hating, raw dough-chomping, non-blinker passing, late tax-filing, long lunch-taking, New York City Salsa-eating, commie-pinko-fascist rick haters stay civil, I so no reason tht this thread needs to be deleted.
