Anyone else out there "play" guitar?

I used to play guitar and bass. Due to a complete lack of bands on the radar, back to playing guitar. I now have more guitars than basses.

Don Sharp DN with Brazilian back/sides. Got a screaming deal since the back was very brittle and cracked during the build. He repaired them, otherwise the wood would have been gallery grade and more than twice the price. I really like it. Very deep sounding and much more responsive to fingerstyle than the average dreadnought.

Ibanez AZ2204f. Modern sounding pickups and 9 switching options. Versatile guitar and likely the one I'd grab for a misc gig. Pickups sound a little modern and the frets could be a little better.

Bob Thompson OM from last summer. Torrified Englemann top with Brazilian RW back/sides. Very versatile acoustic that I'd grab for just about anything.

Got this one used. Very nice guitar and a heck of a deal. I'm not allowed to buy more guitars for a long time.....

Yep - currently own a Gretsch, a Tele and a Epi J-200 acoustic.

Been playing guitar exactly as long as I’ve been playing bass. In the last five years, I’ve taken up pedal steel, lap steel, console steel and resonator. Only thing I don’t own at the moment is a resonator.

I sold my beautiful Beard Vintage R in a fit of insanity a few years ago. It didn’t amplify well so I thought I’d go with one with a Fishman Aura pickup system. Haven’t found one that plays as nice as that Beard did...at a reasonable price, that is!

I play rhythm guitar ok, lead stuff ehhhh not so much. Improvised solos are usually a train wreck....so yeah man, I shred:bassist:
My main player is (and likely always will be) my Squier CV Duo Sonic.

Thirty years ago (shudder) I was a badass. I had a Les Paul Custom and a Marshall Club 50 and I could do a reasonable impersonation of Freddie King. I also played bass guitar. That, as we say, was a long time ago. Bass became my full-time instrument about 25 years ago. These days I have a cheapie Epiphone Les Paul Jr. that I bang on once in a while, but my days of playing the Tonight Show theme when the BL introduced me are long gone for the tall timber.

I've been playing guitar as long as I've been playing bass. Here are some of my guitars.

These are the instruments I can play:

Bass
Guitar
Banjo
Pedal Steel
Cello
Keyboard

BUT - if I'm in a band and anyone is playing bass besides me, I get really agitated and can't concentrate. So I just play bass. Always.

I'll play the others at home, and when I record I play all the instruments and program the drums. But if I'm with any other musicians, I play bass.

Once my pastor had an idea that he wanted to mix it up during worship and let some of the musicians switch instruments from time to time (don't get me started on what a bad idea that is)

I told him - I'll play any instrument you want... as long as it's bass.

I never heard the topic discussed again lol

Do any of you have an aspirations to play another instrument? I would love harmonica and I have dabbled. But piano has always been a dream. I'm currently in school and about to have my first kid in about....4-6 weeks so it's not in the card now. But fingers crossed my daughter likes music and we can take piano lessons together

Currently using a 98 Peavey Wolfgang with a number of amps... I write about 50% of the music for all my bands and have played guitar in a number of groups previously. Yea... i know...i feel dirty... and its always fun for whoever happens to be my bass player lol.

Play guitar, yes. Guitarist, NO. (maybe guitar-er?) Anyway, I'm completely in the Tele camp too! Love those bad asses; cutting board, check, neck, check, 2 p/u's, check, GO! I also have a Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500mce acoustic. Really interesting guitar, replaced my beloved Taylor.
The only places I play guitar is at church & at home (or camping), but I love being able to at least fumble around on other instruments. It always gives me a different perspective, & it keeps my fingers in shape.
I say keep it just because it's a lovely Gretsch...with a Bigsby. Win, win!

I have a Strat and a couple of SGs that rarely get played anymore. I played lead guitar for 12 years but went back to bass when our bassist quit. I have got it out of my system now and have no desire to play guitar in a band.

I have quite a collection of acoustic guitars, most of which get played regularly. My latest toy is a 12 string Yamaha.

I also have a MIM start that my brother owns but lives here. He's got a Ric 360 to keep him occupied and has currently been just playing drums. A bass player dream on drums. Leaves you all room in world. But he's also one of the best guitar players I've ever seen. Maybe it's because we grew up playing together but we can lay down blues tunes like it's going out of style.

I've played guitar for almost 40 years, and only recently have been playing mostly bass. Here's #1 guitar. It's a 2000-ish Yamaha ARS 820 Drop 6 barotone, which I tune to C standard. I've been getting lower and lower for the past 5 years or so. Prior to that, I went for trebly-screechy sounds with Teles and Strats.

I started as a guitarist and did it professionally for most of my 20s. I still have my first "nice" guitar, a '91 Strat Plus Deluxe, the axe I played most, a Jay Turser ES-335 copy that I souped up, and a 7-ibanez (you know, for metal).

I haven't played much gitter other than some 7 string jugga jugga in the last 13 years or so. My last "I am the guitarist" band was a live hip hop project where the drummer had a hybrid electronic/acoustic kit and triggered samples from my laptop. My guitar work in that group was sometimes guitar-y but more often was sound effects and textures. After that ended I didn't really feel the guitar had much more to offer me (as I'm not a heavy practice and don't have the finger dexterity to ever be a mega shredder). I auditioned for a funk group and they were good but I just felt like "I've done all of this before" at the audition. They were kinda shocked when I turned them down.

Since then I'm all about that bass!

I play guitar and ukulele. Judge me if you want, but my Gretsch Jim dandy is all plywood and fits under my bed, and my ukulele fits in my bootlocker. Try doing that with any decent amp, or anything that isn't a ubass.
