I tend to agree with cassanova and Jimmy on this. I'm not necessarily in disagreement with the searches, or even the technology, but rather the unblinking systematic brainless approach to it. A family of three beeps. They're pulled aside and given the wand. Again nothing bad so far. They search the bag, pat down the mom, pat down the dad, and pat down the kid. They still beep. They don't want to be body scanned so they're body searched. Including the child who is screaming bloody murder as a stranger feels her whole body. Personally I'm with the kid. It don't feel right.

I'm not opposed to any of the methods currently in place, but I can't help but feel when I stare into the mouth breathing blankness that is the TSA, that this is all just an illusion. Personally, I like the methods the Israelis use. They look at the people. They use the same technology and look for physical cues. If a person looks suspicious he or she is interrogated and scrutinized. They've learned to distinguish a nervous flyer from a nervous hijacker/bomber or the different ways different cultures, peoples, and their sexes exhibit the range of behaviors that could be interpreted as dangerous. The difference is they rely on profiling, and interviews more than body searches. It's less invasive and more accurate IMO.

Apparently its mainly for show. Though he did get reprimanded for 6 months because he pointed out that if he wanted to kill everyone, he would just crash the plane into the ground...

Well, Shenandoah the wonder service dog had diarrhea during the flight. And in the airport as soon as we got off. :eek::hiding:

Too bad she didn't unburden herself in the TSA line . . . :p

Actually, security went really quickly. No body scanner or groping pat down for us. My daughter did really well.

We've never had the slightest problem with Shenandoah and flying before. :confused: Usually it's my daughter making some unholy mess. :hmm:

So it would appear my choices on Tuesday are to either get blasted with radiation (the safety details pertaining to the amount and exposure is still being argued) or get my dingles jingled, as it were, by a large hairy man with a mustache whose name is most likely Bill.

I'm leaning more toward option 2 but messing with him by telling him to go slower and asking him if he missed anything in the junk region.

^^ glad to hear that went well. While there aren't many, there are some things worse than dog diarrhea.

^ funny. Personally I don't worry about radiation giving me cancer. We start out with a 20% chance of developing cancer and it takes more radiation then there is in the first issue of a comic book to knock it up to 21%. And with all the carcinogens we eat, who cares about xrays?

i'm sure that in 1973 they thought tsa would have much better sense than to feel up old grannies and children and make people pee on themselves.

Is there any way to find honest information as to our options? We're flying in three weeks, and honestly the thought of my wife or children being photo'd or touched outright pisses me off. To the point I will refuse travel, fines or jail time be damned.

From what I understand people are pulled from the metal detector line to be x-rayed or molested, right? Can they pull a child from a parent or guardian randomly? What about a parent from the child? Is there an age limit to protect young children? Can a father (me) be separated from my family at random? And I have no other options at that point? Can I not cross the metal detector and then be scanned when there is a reason to suspect something? Or is the metal detector out entirely now?

no, metal detectors are still plentiful. all depends on the airport. in orlando, they only have one body snatcher operational right now but they're getting more. i just flew out of boston's logan airport, and every line at my gates had a body snatcher and everyone went through them. so you'll have to check with the airports you're using.

I can't tell you if this is legit or not, but it might be worth a look if you're worried about your kid going through security.

Seriously, what is so bad about going through the body scanners? This article does a pretty good job debunking a lot of the myths that people seem to be so fired up over. The radiation levels are not harmful, and you will be exposed to much more radiation over the course of your flight than you will during the scan. Why are people nowadays just looking for things to be pissed off about, whether they actually understand what is going on or not?

with all due respect, that's 100% bullcrap. btw, i like how that nimrod shows "what it looks like" to tsa. yeah, that's what it looks like when you're in good shape. it doesn't look nearly that flattering if you're not. plus you can totally make out what someone's junk looks like. so don't give me that crap that it's not a violation of someone's privacy. it certainly is.

so keep pretending this is anything but a way to sell new machines by the machine inventors who are quite cozy with our government's officials. we've turned into a nation of scum sucking whiny babies scared of our own shadow. the terrorist mission is complete.

My issue is with the privacy of my child. No one has the right to touch a child like that. Doctors don't do that, and they have to truly look for things. I'm not looking to be pissed off. I'm trying to educate myself as to the idiocy of these agencies and my rights as a person. Excuse me for having morals.
