Anyone from Singapore?

Hi everyone,

It is possible that I may be moving to Singapore. I know the humidity there is intense and I'm wondering if I'm going to need to take precautions with my basses (Warwick SSII and Corvette Fretless). These have been fine in NYC even through crazy hot summers and cold winters - the necks have not budged. I'm just not sure if I should be worried. I'm pretty sure I'll have A/C there but I don't want to have to run it constantly. I think dehumidifiers would be a bit pointless because they would overflow fast.

Anyone have experience there? Do I even need to worry?

Thanks

I dont think you will have a problem. Having good stuff as you have, the basses will adapt to the weather.
I lived several years in Hong Kong which is not as hot and wet as Singapore but still very hot and didnt have a problem.
Regarding AC, unless you play and open gig there are aircons everywhere.
Been several times to Singapore. For me there is no way to live there without an AC.
But the city is very nice. Very green and organized and there are lots of beautiful women.
Not sure about the music circuit but if its similar to Hong Kong (for what I saw it seems to be), if you put together a decent band playing covers you can play basically every weekend and get some $$
good luck!!!

Hi. You are right about the humidity in Singapore. However, also note that humidity and temperature are pretty much constant through the year, and a setup should last far longer. Most serious musicians I know (especially acoustic guitarists) use dehumidifiers in the smallest room of their house, or even just in the guitar closet. Without it, strings and hardware seem to rust and soundboards tend to lift on acoustic instruments.

I personally use carbon fiber (Zon and CA Guitars) so I don't have to deal with it, but many wood-loving players make it work here. My teacher used to play a Warwick for the longest time.

Quite a number of us here in Singapore.... You will need to tweak the bass necks after a month or so. Between the humidity and the temperature it will bow the neck.

You will probably need dehumidifiers. I throw a couple in each gig bag or it will get moldy.

Constantly leaving your basses in an air conditioned room is the best but costly.

Not in Singapore right now, but man I wish I were. Love it there, worked as a musician for over a year. You'll love the food and the welcoming people.

Pretty much what everyone else said. I bought and used a Warwick Thumb BO there. The neck didn't budge. You shouldn't worry.

Props on the stingray! Not just a great bass. Newton circus has the best.

They also used to have good deals on an outlet store of Swee Lee (spell?). Got my thumb for very cheap there.
