Hey,
So, I'm thinking of becoming an Audio Engineer. I absolutely love music, it's a passion, and I want to continue it as I get older. What I'm really hoping can happen is that I become an Audio Engineer, get a job at a studio, or wherever else I can get one, and then save money to then one day open up my own studio. I've been searching around the net for colleges to go to, some being: Full Sail, Stevens Institute of Technology, maybe William Paterson, and etc. My top choice right now is either Full Sail or Stevens, but something else has also come my way, do I really need college? I understand that in the music industry they don't necessarily care about what college you went to or that you graduated the top of your class (though that's an impressive accomplishment) they care about if you're good enough to do what you're assigned to. The music industry is about connections, Rob can get you to Bob and Bob can get you the jackpot! But how do I even get there? I'm saving money to try and buy myself a good laptop and everything I need to start learning how to mix, I'm even contacting different studios to see if they'd let me intern for the summer (in which I feel I'll receive no response back) but I really have no idea what I'm doing or what to do. I feel that I NEED to go to college only because everything in this world today demands one, but at the same time I feel that it could be a big waste of money and time. Right now I have a friend who moved to Florida. He is a very good photographer and videographer. From connections along he got a LOT of contracts and even asked to travel with a band. He's gotten very far and he's only just turned 18. How? He gets out there, he gets connections, he's living his life and he isn't hanging on a college diploma to do so. If he can do it, why can't I? (Well I do know a big problem, my parents are pretty restrictive and against music). I don't know mann, I just need some advice from someone who has walked the road I would wish to travel.
