Anyone Playing Thier Bass Through a Guitar Amp ?

At band practice, I have been using our steel guitar players Fender Deluxe tube amp to play my bass through and it sounds sweet! Incredibly warm tone but, Ive never cranked it up very loud since we practice in his home. It has me wanting one to practice with at home. Anyone here using a regular guitar amp to practice with? My Markbass set-up sounds great at higher volume and in a large room but, its not that great at low volume in my studio.

Epiphone Valve Jr stacks make great recording or practice amps. I had one for about a year and a half and it worked beautifully for those purposes. It had great clean bass tones but would get some sick OD if you pushed it.

I play a 66 Gibson Titan V head, it's technically a tube guitar head.
Sounds AMAZING for bass though, and I never thought I would be satisfied with only 70 watts, but it's plenty loud enough with my 4x12 cab.

Does using a guitar amp with a bass speaker count? If so, I used to play through a SUNN 100 watt guitar head and a 1-15 cab. The distortion channel was dead, but the clean channel was quite warm sounding, one of the better solid state bass amps that I've played through - if you like a vintage sound that is.

I play through Marshall Major, Hiwatt DR201, Sound City 200 Plus. All sound great with bass cabs.

No but I used to play guitar through a GK 400. Of course guitarists have been playing through bass amps for years since the Fender Bassman.

Alot of what you're hearing is actual warm, friendly tube tone - as opposed to what you're getting out of your Markbass. Almost any tube amp will make you smile in comparison. I'm not sure what variety "Deluxe" you're using, but that in itself will affect what kind of tone you're getting. An old, 6V6-based Deluxe for example, will have a rounder, tubbier tone than one of the newer models that runs on 6L6s and has more clean headroom. If you do crank it up, be mindful that the speakers may not be built to handle bass frequencies, so better safe than sorry.

Technically, playing bass through a guitar cab runs the risk of blowing the speakers, but a guitar head will not hurt your bass speakers at all. My 4x12 cab is for both bass and guitar so it does just fine with the bass frequencies. In fact it's got HUGE bass, pants flapping, floor rumbling bass.

Open back cabs are at larger danger than closed ones. So long as you keep volume moderate, don't boost the bass (lows) and listen to the speaker, you'll be okay. If it's stressing, turn down!

It you use a high pass filter to cut the lows and run the mids and highs into one, that is a totally reasonable idea.
