Anyone still using DR Pure Blues?

I like the Pure Blues' mids better. Sunbeams were dull AND clanky to me, if such is thing is believable...

I generally like round wound strings to have "musical" sounding mids (like, maybe more 400 Hz than 800 Hz) without heavy lows OR highs.

I've tried both and I know exactly what you're saying...

The SBs are all about a nice full bottom with a sparkly top end, while the PBs are stronger in the mids without being too aggressive. Between the two, the PBs would be my choice.

I had them on My Ultra Jazz and did not like them. Then I put them on My Precision Pro II and it was much better , they are still on there and they sound great.
It would be nice to have "one string to rule them all", but I've yet to discover it. Every bass I have seems to need different strings in order to bring out the best.

I've usually enjoyed DR Sunbeams (45-105) on my different 4-strings in the past - love them in both my passive Jazz and P/J once they've been worked in and lost a little of that new-string zing. I just grabbed a set of PB's in the same gauge and put them on a recently acquired Tobias Growler (single MM style pickup with lots of eq'ing options).

No real complaints with the PB's, but they seem to feel a little different than Sunbeams and I can't comment just yet on how well they age. I'll probably stick with my familiar Sunbeams, but the PB's will likely work in a pinch if I need an alternative down the road.

I have them on an Alien Audio. They were kind of ho-hum to start with, but sound nicely balanced after settling in. Anyone have problems with the un-tapered part of the B string being too long? I have a full wrap on the tuning peg and was pretty sure it was going to break, but it didn't.

I tried pure blues on a couple basses and wasn’t very impressed. Felt stiffer than hi-beams or sunbeams and the sound was just ok for me. I’ve been using hi-beams or Dunlop super brights on P basses and sunbeams on Jazz basses.

My experience with Pure Blues has been mixed. They felt great to me and they kept their wonderful tone for a long time. However, when they died, they died very suddenly. There was no gradual decay or anything. They were fine one day and the next they plummeted straight down off a cliff like Wile E. Coyote.

I've encountered a couple of others who've had similar experiences, so at least I feel like I'm not alone and wasn't completely crazy, though I'm probably in the minority here.

Re: Sunbeams. I tried them once and hated them. Way too spongy for my tastes.

My favorite DR strings were Hi-Beams.

I'm a big Sunbeam fan and when I tried the PBs I remember being distinctly underwhelmed.

They also felt slightly higher tension to me in the same gauge?

What is the general view of PBs - good? Bad?
Love them. Just grabbed my first pack of strings since 2019 and that's what I grabbed!

Here is a recorded practice from 5ish years ago. Excuse the slop!
DR Pure Blues!!!
