I tried to pick up a set at the local GC last week. Unfortunately the only set they had looked like it was run over by a forklift. I settled for Fender nickels and I was utterly disappointed.I would even add I hear tonalities I never heard before with precision bass tone open and Traynor combo tweeter switched on.
It’s funny what you saw with the Pure Blues package looking like it was run over by a forklift. Last week I was at GC and bought a pack of DR High Beams and all of the DR string packs looked exactly like that. The guy there said they were shipped from the corporate warehouse at the bottom of a box with heavy items on top. Maybe other locations had their DR’s delivered that way? Anyway I still bought them and and sounded stellar as always.I tried to pick up a set at the local GC last week. Unfortunately the only set they had looked like it was run over by a forklift. At one point I wondered if I had put on a stainless set because of the zing.

They've lasted me a long time.Well, many people endure rough steel strings for the zing, although it is short-lived.
I don’t know what the longevity of the Pure blues will be, and I will try them on my split-coil p bass tomorrow (today I put my first set on a Squier 50s single-coil p bass which has its own very particular richness and brightness).
I don't care for the Cobalt ones but do like the regular slinkys ok. They've lasted a while on my basses.I just removed these same strings strings today, EB hybrid slinkies, they were 2-for-1 last year, I would usually use Rotosound nickels before. The EBs were ok, the Pure Blues are special, now I wonder how the Rotosounds would compare, can’t quite remember.
This is EXACTLY how I’d describe the Pure Blues. I’ve been a DR fanatic since I moved here in the States, used Hi-Beams and Fat-Beams on my Fenders.I just tried DR Pure Blues. Very bright and dynamic sound, bright like steel but without the zing. Different tone but same soft feel as other nickel strings I have used.
More tension than the Lo Riders? Same gauge? IME, the the Lo Riders had more tension. Either way, the Pure Blues are great strings.I have been using Nickel Lo Riders but have been trying the Pure Blues. To me they have a little more tension which I like better. The tone is slightly fuller with more thump and plenty of growl on my Jazz bass. I think I’m going to switch permanently.
Hmm. Interesting. I could be completely wrong on the tension.More tension than the Lo Riders? Same gauge? IME, the the Lo Riders had more tension. Either way, the Pure Blues are great strings.
