To me as a comparison shopper at the moment the new version has no "internal battery" power option and there are now two three-position voicing switches whose functions are well-described in the owners manual. I am seriously thinking about ordring one and have been looking closely at the very question you asked.
I had a Linden for a little while that I ran after a Submarine to sweeten it up even further. Sounded so good. But I’m never satisfied for long. Then I got a chance to snag a Broughton SVPre. I don’t have a SLO or any cab sim at the moment, but hope to soon. I also came to feel that the Linden and SVPre covered similar territory, and I could do without the Linden, so I sold the Linden to raise some funds. I regretted that decision almost instantly. As awesome as the SVPre is – and it will always be a centerpiece staple of my sound – it’s not the same as the Linden. I was fortunate enough to snag another Linden used recently. I compared the two for a great while last night. Currently, among other things, I run the Linden into a Trickfish Minnow. I feel that the Linden does need something else to boost it up a bit level and power wise when I’m not using it with an amp, which is to say most of the time. The Minnow is a clean pre, and I just use it to boost the overall bass and low mids a bit, without becoming boomy. Comparing the SVPre to the Linden/Minnow combination has shown me that the two are very similar, but not the same. I don't really consider either to be better than the other. They're just different. The SVPre is fantastic for SVT tones. It’s deep and powerful. But the Linden has a bit more finesse to me, for lack of a better word. It’s a bit sweeter, more mellow, has a tighter low end and is a better overall everyday tone for me than the SVPre is. At least that’s my take on it. But when I want that thunderous, huge SVT sound, the SVPre is it.
That’s exactly why I picked up a Linden again, in an attempt to approximate a P15 on a budget. I have never had a P15 to compare it to, and never will, and sound samples of the P15 are few and far between. So it’s difficult if not impossible to know if I have succeeded in approximating that tone at all. But I’m in love with my tone now. I can’t see the need for the P15 at this point. Ignorance is bliss. Plus, I didn’t really want to lug that big old thing around anyway . . . or spend $700 . . . if you can even find it. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.Well, waiting for a Ginger to arrive to pair with a Linden (and maybe a tube pedal) to see if I can simulate a B15 (or create a poor man's P15 pedal-board equivalent) beyond merely the tone stack

The Linden takes other pedals like drives very well. I tried an EBS ValveDrive and a DSM Subatomic into it earlier tonight, and it's sublime.Agree.....it sort of "fills out" the sonic space.....seems to be filling in holes you weren't aware were there....
BTW, running it with the Ginger is very nice, but the two lots of tone controls is probably overkill...I can get that slight tubey hairiness from my tube pedal, which also doubles for me as an overdrive, given the limited board space. Plus the Linden has versatility in spades....don't get me wrong, the Ginger does what it does very well, but it just doesn't have the range of the Linden. The Linden is what I'd call "dense"....it rewards prolonged experimentation.
I, too, will almost certainly never get the opportunity to compare it to a P15....not just because of finances and logistics, but because I'm still recovering from my wife's reaction to my most recent pedal purchase....
