I bit the bullet and bought one sight unseen. Best $650 I've ever spent. I prefer the tone way more than an Ampeg. I've tried practically every brand and speaker configuration, this cab finally moves all the air I need, without the size and weight of a 8x10". I've been powering it with a GK MB500 or a Carvin B1000. The GK gives it a more vintage growl, the Carvin has a tube preamp and more tone shaping capabilities for achieving a more modern sound. The cabinet works beautifully either way. SVT cabs are one trick ponies, this cab is not.
I think I got the last cab in the USA with the black speakers. I'm stoked about that, although I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the grey speakers. Just a better looking package IMO.
I'd like to actually weigh this cabinet, though. I think 83lbs is an underestimate. I used to load a 100lb SWR Black Beauty in and out of my car, and this cabinet feels just as heavy, if not heavier. But it fits in my Dodge Caliber along with an upright bass, an electric bass, and other small assorted gear. I wouldn't be able to do that with a 8x10!
Bottom line, why spend $1000+ on another 610? So far, I'm a very happy customer.
Update: I just got on the Ashdown page for exact specs. They may have originally claimed 83lbs, but now they are claiming 57kg (123lbs!)
