Anyone use a display case to store your basses?

Silly question I know. Just got another nice bass and I'm the kind of guy that keeps them safe in a hardcase when not in use but I use a good quality gig bag when going out. My Luthier says they resist too extreme humidity changes better in a hardcase so.... I have to admit that on a certain level, they ARE sort of works of art. Corny I know but more and more I find myself feeling that way and appreciating the work of the guys that make these even if a run of the mill stock Fender.

I had more in mind like a modified gun cabinet where they would be lighted and it would allow for a small hidden humidifier but they could be easily pulled out for practice or noodling.

I converted a shelf in my living room bookcase to a display case for my ukuleles, sealed all the seams with weather seal tape, put two trays on the bottom shelf for water with lids that I slide around to expose more or less surface area, had plexiglass doors cut to fit, with piano hinges. Also two hygrometers, one analog, one digital and stays between 41% and 57% humidity as I adjust the lids. I keep my sub-short basses in their gig bags in a none display cabinet.

On another site I saw a guy's music room where he had display cases on the walls of his music room--so you could see his guitars as art, but then you could open the cases and take them out & play them also--He did it to get the best of both scenarios.
He said he built them himself--it would get expensive otherwise--and even then, it wouldn't have been cheap.
Cool idea though, if done well.

Basses are tools for me - I just hang them on the wall. That way, they are on display and readily available for playing.
One thing I make sure is that I keep the humidity/temperature within the window of common sense in that room (humidifier
and heater..).

Commissioned an Amish carpenter near Lancaster PA to build if for me. Wanted to use a tambour roll-top door, but even when counter-balanced the door was just too heavy.

He suggested the sliding glass doors which have worked out pretty well!
