Anyone using four 15's?

while in this area whats a "folded horn" ala 18"

Here's an Acoustic 301 folded horn 18. The speaker faces backward and fire into a "W" shaped chamber. Thesound comes out the top and lower ports. Very efficient, very loud, very heavy!

I didn't use 4 15"s the other night, but I could have, I have a Sunn 215b and two Joe's 15" cabs. Friday night I used my 301 on my side of the stage and the 215b on the guitarist's side. One of the best bass sounds I ever got!

Don't be fooled by the guitarist's 12" Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. That is a very loud 40 watt guitar amp! He is an old rock'n'roller and plays pretty loud, the soundguy doesn't mike his amp usually. They didn't need to use too much of my direct signal, either! He likes to hear the bass so he was pleased with my setup. He also said something about bringing his Marshall stack.

I said "Bring it on!"

You sir, cannot imagine the envy I feel right now.

Sorry for the delay...

Those are from an old (80s) company called Spectra, which was later bought out by Dean Markley. They are very similar, could be exactly the same, as the Music Man folded horns. Those plus an SVTII were my rig for a good long time, definitely a wall of bass. I used to have each pair bolted into a single stack, with handles and wheels on the back for SVT 810-style tilt-and-roll, but it got too heavy so now each cab has its own wheels.

You're right on with the EVM, good call. They originally came with some kind of lesser EV 15s, but I reloaded them with 15Ls. Two of them have been reconed with the 400-watt voice coils (I think the older 15Ls had 200-watt coils).

The cabs are really too shallow for those speakers, so they're pretty bright. I haven't fired them up in quite a while, since I have a GS412 that's my main cabinet. It's been long enough that I'm actually pretty curious about how they'd sound now, but I won't really know until around the end of the year when I get into a house and pull them out of storage.

Is that an actual pic of your cab? If so 15s would be a waste of money and time, but you could gain a lot by replacing the existing 12s with modern drivers and venting the box. You could lose a lot too, Deltalite II 2512s would lop off perhaps 20 pounds.

This is a cool idea. How exactly would he vent it? Would it perform up to modern standards in terms of frequency response?

...there was a previously posted pic of the dude from Om who used to be in Sleep. I saw Sleep in '93 & Al's Rick + tubes/15's was BRUTAL, not to mention his vox!
Definetly check them out(Om & Sleep), very groovin' stuff & heavy as HELL!...

PS: If 8x10's were better/heavier sounding, I'm sure he'd be using them...
