Anyone with a job get a bonus this year?

A bonus?

Getting paid would be decent enough for me. Self-employed, and a customer stiffed us on a contract. Not a massive one - but just under five figures, and it means that we have no rent, food or presents for Christmas. Try telling that to five kids... :(

I work in the heating and cooling industry. Usually between October and February is our slow season. But because of the government tax rebates we've been pretty steady. I get a bonus every year. It's not much. I put it all in the bank. I think I want to get a Carvin bass eventually, so I'll be saving up for that.

My boss had a party at his house for the employees. Gave all the guys (no female employees except his wife and daughter) a flip video camera and the wives got a reindeer serving dish.

No bonus, but I've got the coolest boss in the world that drops little benefits on us all year long. It may be cliche but he truly does treat us all like family.

Actually, thinking back, the best bonus I ever got was $150.00. One year I made almost $300.00 in tips at Christmas, but my bonus was $25.00 from the company. many, many years my bonus was $25.00 or a ham. I am not ungrateful but when you have a habit of working 50 - 60 hour weeks and all the corvette or Cadillac driving boss can cough up is $25.00...well.. and one year I gave my boss a very expensive bottle of Cognac, I got $25.00 as a bonus. I was a wee bit in the hole.

I did not nor do not give gifts expecting a better gift in return or to suck up. But if I find out you like a certain, expensive Cognac or single malt scotch, I will give it instead of some cheap **** you won't like or will never enjoy.

I wish all employers would pull their heads out of the asses and think of that too. If you have under 20 employees, even in a slow year, you should be able to save up enough cash to give your employees a decent bonus! Most places I have worked fit that bill....but they could never manage to save...Heck any company should be able to find money throughout the year to give their employees a decent bonus.

One employer gave $25.00 bonuses in cash and then threw a whopping big party in the shop on Christmas eve, eve. All the company and folks we did business with through the year were invited and it was a hoot! And we got to feast on the left over food for lunch for almost a week afterwards!

That is taking care of your friends!

Hey you live in the hometown I grew up in! I was raised on Staten Island, but left for the Army in 1990, and never lived there again.

No bonus or raise this upcoming year....per Mr. Obama...but am very grateful to have my job. So, I went ahead and bought myself a bass using my GC credit card...0% financing for 6 months on a used $700 (including tax & shipping) 1998 Peavey Cirrus.

My boss is awesome, too. He is flexible and fair and cool as hell. We are a boot-strap operation, so he hooks me up when things are going well throughout the year.

I haven't spent any money on gear in the last two years unless it was from selling something I already had, so it was nice. My wife did have to twist my arm a bit to get me to spend on myself though, if you can believe it.

I lucked out this year and found the best job I've ever had, via a recruiter. This was RIGHT before I got axed from the job before. Good timing...for once! This is a secure one, and yes, I got a nice little bonus that helped out with expenses, but no buying toys here. :-\

For $$$, try petrochem with the right company OR take your knowledge and change over to IR instrumentation for petrochem/electrical industries.

To the OP: Yes....fortunately!!!
My son graduated college Sept 2010 and daughter started college Sept 2010, so you KNOW where my "extra" $$$ went.
Very different company and well-managed(read: cost-conscious decades before 2008~2009 hit). Very thankful also.

I work for an employee owned business (John Lewis) so we will be getting a bonus at some point soon :)

Last year, I didn't get a Christmas bonus but instead was laid off for two weeks (as was everyone, with the exception of a skeleton crew to man the phones).

I changed jobs in February and got a bonus this year (a large one, I may say). Didn't spend it on anything fancy, just some regular holiday presents that I would've spent money on anyway.

I've been pretty fortunate to have worked for the same folks for over 16 years. 2008 was the first year with no bonus, and 2010 will be the second.

Surprisingly there were small bonuses in '09, and although much smaller than previous ones, it was still unexpected and appreciated. However this year, it's back to $0.00 in the bonus column. But at least I'm still employed!
