Anyone with a job get a bonus this year?

At my day job (audio engineer at a custom A/V design/integration firm) I've gotten a yearend bonus -- and not just a measly $50 gift card, I'm talkin' serious fazoole -- every single year since I joined the company nine years ago

...except this year.

El jefe's explanation/justification was interesting to say the least: apparently this is the first year in the 20+ years the company's been in business that several clients have refused to pay their bills. We're writing off several hundred thousand dollars of invoices as a loss, and that means our yearend profit margin has been shot to hell. Or at least shot up such that he can't afford to give a whole mess of employees some serious fazoole.

Sucks, but what can ya do? I still have a job, so not sure I can complain.

Wait, yes I can...

I got a Christmas bonus of $500 this year. I work at a Wine & Spirits store. Funny, I have worked for big corporations most of my life and gotten no bonus from multi-million dollar companies. But some mom and pop liquor store gives all of their employees(all 4 of us) $500 each. Guess it is true what they say, the ones who make the most share the least.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope God blesses you all!

On this side of the world it works like this. It's either a 13th cheque that gets paid the same month when it's your birthday or at the end of the year when a lot of businesses close for about 2-3 weeks. That' your bonus.

By law, you have to pay your employees at least 3 weeks wages.

I'm in the construction business and received a bonus equivalent to 5 weeks pay. I'm happy.

No bonus but that's okay. I was laid off from late January '09 thru March of this year so I'm just grateful to be working again. Besides, too many people out there have absolutly nothing so who am I to complain about not getting extra.

As some who works in human services, I'd sooner see unicorns and dragons. I am sick of my job and my field. Half of my dirtbag clients make more than me milking the system for unemployment (when they are fully capable of finding a job and maintaining said job), MA, SSI / SSDI, and other random gov't assistance. They enjoy that while I make peanuts and struggle to pay off $80k in school loans.

Yes, I'm bitter.

Wife got a certain percentage of her salary as a bonus (in addition to her salary of course; amounted to about $400).

I got a bottle of Prosecco (basically Italian Champagne) and a 2 week unpaid vacation.

No complaints.

Very nice! Being self-employed, we had to
purchase our own prosecco, so we got a case. The good prosecco is not very champagne-like, but has it's own wonderful qualities, somewhere between a dry orvieto and vinho verde. God, I miss Venezia!

Okay, I spent too long composing my reply, forum logged me out, lost the whole thing. :spit:

So this time I'll keep it short:

bonus = yes
raise = yes
grateful "just" to have a job = no

I've reached my limit of the abuse I will tolerate in the name of economic downturn "just to have a job". (Actually there are at least three of us who will be leaving in January.) How dare anyone imply that the only reason we (IT minions) are employed is by their grace, as if we make no contribution. If we make no contribution, why the hell are you still cutting us checks? Shouldn't you have fired us by now? If we can really be "replaced in five minutes", why haven't you contacted WorkSource yet? GTFOH :spit:
