My father, who is in his mid-60s, is a total repository of these old sayings. One of his most oft used phrases is, "Yeah, I showed him where the bear **** in the buckwheat." I must admit that it's pretty amusing to hear some of the old sayings that my father picked up over the years.

What are some of your favorite outdated sayings?

Translation: That board is warped.

My dad has some of these crunchy expressions, but these are "local walloons" even those who speak frend don't understand ...
Usually that makes me laught because it's really .... pictural ...

My dad once commented on our ovulating (oscillating) sprinkler. He got "the look" from my wife.

I remember when I was younger and my friend Mike got into a debate with his father about using the term "balls".

For Mike, saying "That's the balls" meant it was good.

For his dad, "Oh, balls!" meant something wasn't good.

Then we would be advised not to take any wooden nickels.

That kind of reminds me of a discussion on TB a year or so ago where Tommygunn was trying to convince us that saying that something was "The jizz!" meant that it was cool. Highly amusing.
