Are 15" speaker cabs the new 12s?

Gimme 10's or 15's any day...I've never been a fan of 12's. When they were getting popular, they were marketed as having the punch of a 10 with the lows of a 15. To me its always been the opposite...not quite the punch of 10's and not quite the lows of a 15.
Albeit, I have played and heard some good rigs using 2x12" and 4x12" speakers, it's just never been my thing.
I started with 2 1x15s....in fact I still have them and play them quite a bit. Although my main cabs for the past 4yrs have been a couple of 4*10s.

My next cab will be a vertically-aligned 2x15 with a very cool retro piggyback look and proportion sized similar to a NEO 412, cloth-but-see-thru-grill, transportable via tiltback-casters, top-bar and bottom recessed-handle, using simple but proper internal bracing to allow it to be made of 11-ply BB, optimized for +/- 85w of tubes and will be assumed to be usually used DI'd to support.

Y'all will catch up. :)

If your like me,old school and dont slap and pop,my15's have always given me that bottom end thunder on the 1 that moves people.That used to be what Bass was about.Now it has become such a versitile instrument,I think that I would have 2 10's on top of my 15 for that high punch you need for todays music,with the slap & pop for the best of both worlds,If I played all styles of bass.LOL im still stuck in the Old fart school.Sorry about that to all our younger players out there in TB Land.

Call me cool (if you must) but I had a 2x12 cab which I sported in

the late 70's until the early 90's when at a gig I blew the speakers and didn't even hear them die (the stage volume was so loud!). In truth, it was all I could afford. Since then, I've gone more traditional with the rigs at least having a 15". I did use a GK Neo 2x12 cab in a room recently but found it lacking in warmth so my 15" came with me the week later when I could split the amp's power. I'd say try poll on TB to get the truth as to what everyone uses but there are a lot of gear hounds here so you would probably get multiple answers from just one member.

I currently use an Ampeg PN-410HLF and Bergantino 2x10, both of which I very much like but they don't seem to have the depth of the Fender 1x15 I used years ago. I'd be interested in trying some GK 2x12s but my next cab purchase will be a couple of 2x15s.

Due to its large diameter size 15's don't benefit from an vertical alignment of speakers, just saying.

With 15's you may gain acoustical coupling of the two loudspeaker sources that may reach an upper bandwitdth that equals ~450Hz
With a quite lowish bandwidth of coupling like that I don't see any real benefit for vertical alignment.
And yes, I do know how 15's do sound in the room and FOH

Comb filtering is also a thing, and 2 15's side by side take up a lot of real estate on small stages. YMMV though.

Vertical alignment looks cool/retro. That's my only criteria on this one. As for your acoustic-engineering:

In the room? I'll take a friendly swipe: 10 feet away with your pants, 50 feet away with the throwdown crowd, or way back there where faderboy can't even tell your cab from the back wall?

Big variables, big differences. :)
