Are 15" speaker cabs the new 12s?

Players like to overthink things.

I've never had a problem with comb filtering. Let the FOH system designers worry about that.

15s were a thing before 12s were a thing. I've been a 2x115 user for several decades… I've tried 10s and 12s along the way, but always come back to 15s.

No. 15s are still 15s and 12s are still 12s... new or old.

I never tried, but I doubt I could hear the difference.

I guess so long as the cab is on the big side and full of speakers (no smaller than 10" each),

I'm happy.
