Are abstract art fans stupid?

We can look at Art and see the parallels of music, notice what everyone is saying.
I was listening to a performance in school and it was a guy doing some wacky digital stuff, but it's composition and arrangement was too sloppy and rushed. But it was very "creative". It seems like as long as your creative the other aspects of music and art don't matter. People will find meaning and emotion even if there is no emotion in music and in art. It's not all about being aesthetically pleasing somethings are only great because they're so abrasive. And the notion that it being hard to make makes it good is absolutely wrong. But creativity or making something that looks/sounds enigmatic should not be the only way we judge it. What is funny about the bear? Because we are sold the idea that if you don't like it, you just can't understand it. "I know something, you don't, and if you don't like it, you're just too old, too conservative or too ignorant." And when we are told that we find ourselves accepting everything regardless of the other aspects of art and simply does it look emotional or inspired.

And just as in music, I would rather hear someone say "It's not my cup of tea" or "Dosen't do anything for me" rather than say "Can you believe someone made this crap?!?!?!" Many people think Pollock paintings look like someone spilled paint on a drop cloth. Others are moved emotionally by it. Is one of them wrong?

For the record, I've actually seen a few Jackson Pollacks in person and I personally found them nothing short of impressive.

I don't like the bears paintings. I don't know why but I think its rubbish [Edit: the donkey seems pretty talented though]

Exactly. One of my favorite surrealist paintings:

can be interpreted about 20 different ways, and everyone seems to see it differently.

It's a Magritte entitled "The Lovers". I can't say exactly why it kills me, but it's been in my music room for years and I still top and stare at it sometimes.

Another guy influenced by the surrealists. Robert Williams. He has a ton of paintings. This is one of my favorites. All his nudes were modeled by his wife, just like Dali (except Dali had a few different wives).

He made a great point. This modern art is expensive also. Let's be honest The Pink Glittery cow with giant sunglasses sculpture is not art.

But then again that implies art can only be good if it is made by a human. So maybe not.
What are your thoughts on Abstract art?

art is a form of expression. that presupposes two things:

1. having feelings and ideas to express
2. consciously using something to express those feelings/ideas.

i don't doubt that bears have feelings. they may even have ideas.

i seriously doubt that they can express those with paint or musical instruments. might make interesting pictures or sounds. but it isn't art.

abstract art is okay. i prefer surrealism.
