Are Black Beauties and Neon same?

Yes they are the same in different colors.
Tension, feel, and sound are very close to FatBeams. A bit smoother feel and a bit less bright, but very very close.
Chromes are much higher tension and very dead sounding in comparison.

This. I was a dyed in the wool Sunbeam player until my last gig when I decided to try the Black Beauties. Whereas I generally need to wait about a month for the zing to go out of the Sunbeams the BBs were perfect out of the box (I play alt-country so I'm not going for a bright tone).
The tension is medium/medium-light. They're not as low tension as TI flats but they're definitely much lower in tension than Chromes.
They're a great string.
I just put a set of Black Beauties on one of my basses for the first time. Great tone. I find them to be a bit sticky/grabby on my right hand but I'm told that it'll wear off after a few days of playing them.
Hi there, I second everyone's feedback, the strings are great (black beauties); now in mu experience, even after 1 month of intensive playing (6 string bass) the stickeness did not wear off... Actually it reached a new level during a gig where it was very hot and humid. Where it actually find this manageable, this time it became an issue, to bring me back to my old Earnie ball strings. Very nice on a studio environment and great look, but a little sticky to sweaty gorillas as me
I've been gigging with them since last April off and on (not the same set!) and have not found them to be sticky at all. Probably depends on your chemistry.
They're not sticky like something would stick to them but more grabby on the fingers. The strings tend to grab onto the skin instead of letting the fingers just slide off them.
For some reason, I thought the BB's were Hi Beams and the Neon's were Sunbeams?
I do not find them sticky in the slightest, I suspect application may be a factor? I'm playing laid back alt-country lines for the most part. When playing harder styles you might generate more heat and maybe that could cause more stickiness? No idea.
All of DR's coated strings are Sunbeams inside, except Dragon Skins which are HiBeams.
Oddly enough, I find Beauties/Neons to be brighter/snappier than Sunbeams.
I just put a set of BBs on my go to bass. They are PDG... It is a slightly different feel from what I am used to and these are the lighter ones .. 40-60-80-100-120 as opposed to the 45-65-85-105-125. They are definitely a different animal from the MM Fats I had on there.. These seem to be brighter and snappier in sound.. and for rounds they feel pretty good on the fingers too.
You can burn your fingertips with long left-hand slides if you use too much pressure.
I just switched from Black Beauties to Hi-Beams. The Hi-Beams are a lot more aggressive and growly.

I really liked the set of BBs I tried, they sounded like a broken in string from day 1 and held that tone for a good 9 months. The only issue I had was that if I did a slide along the string with any fretting pressure, I would get a friction burn on my fingertip.
Isn't that most rounds if you press too hard..? Maybe my fingers are ust used to it.. but I don't have that issue..and I do slides a lot. I played at rehearsal tonight with them.. and I think I have found my new string for this bass.

Using Black Beauties on a Sadowsky RV5. First I liked them a lot, but after a few weeks they sound a bit dull and less growly. As far as grabbiness, they are smoother than Sunbeams but they generate a little more friction which could be called grabbiness or stickiness, especially on my right hand. A little bit like flats in that they become more difficult to use when my hands are damp at a gig. In practice at home they feel great but I stopped using flats for this reason and the coated DR's may end up being the same. They are definitely a different animal. Tone overall is good, warm mids like most DR nickels.

I had this same problem. The strings felt great until about two hours in a 12X12 rehearsal room with 4 tube amps and broken AC. I was dripping, which is unusual for me, and my plucking hand was sticking worse than my fretting hand.
Does anyone have a solution to sweat sticky fingers? I was thinking maybe pool chalk or corn starch, but it would probably gum up the strings.
There is some grabbynesss as pothers describe for neons. Having liught touch helps. But it can be annoying.
