Are Fat Beams still SS Kings?

Love Fat Beams, Hi Beams and Dunlop Super Brights. Probably in that order, but they are all really good.

My current set are just over two years old. Still warm and punchy through a Tone Hammer DI. I told myself I would replace them when I start gigging again but not just yet.

I always liked what Labella used to call Hard Rocking steel rounds. I don't know if they still make them.

I love those strings. They have more bottom end than your average roundwounds yet have plenty of growl to fill the sound out.

+1 on Fatbeams for SS. However, depending on your tonal needs you may also consider the Pure Blues. I played DR stainless for years, but once I put on the PB, the depth and warmth (not to mention long life) won me over.

at first I thought "you're telling me Ernie Ball Strings their basses in Dunlops rather than their own brand??" then I realized you meant Marcus Miller.

I use the Dunlop MM Super Bright SS and love them. They replaced my DR SS Low Riders as my favorite.

MM Dunlop Super Brights won me over. Not as bottom friendly as Fat Beams but a bit more grind and just a bit more of everything than regular Dunlop Super Brights.

If you like Fat beams for the feel and tension you might like Fodera stainless or Sadowski blue label strings. Labella RX stainless would work too. Back in the day People we're into either Rotosound or Dean Markley Blue steel. DR really took over and have become very popular. Let us know what you end up trying.

I'm curious too. I thought about them but never ended up buying them yet. At some point I'll probably try a set just to say I've played them. I'm trying as many sets of strings as I can.

I'm curious about the SIT Power Wound Nickel's, in particular. If they are similar in tension to D'addario XL'S of the same gauge then I bet I'll like them. Any stiffer than those, than not for me.

Regular SIT strings are on the stiff side, but SIT Foundations were specifically designed for flexibility by using a hex core of a smaller diameter. Based on what I've read, they're actually similar to the Dunlop Super Brights in terms of tension/stiffness.
