Are Gig Bags Safe?

Well padded ones........yes! Cheap, flimsy, no padding ones......NO! IMHO, I think a well padded, well designed gigbag offers more protection than a HSC. The weight of a HSC, when dropped with a bass inside, can still result in damage of some sort. That's a good shock that can shift a neck. Gig bags are much lighter. Granted unless you drop it right on the heel or headstock! I had a Tobias bass once along with a Tobias well padded gig bag. One winter, I slipped on some ice and fell directly on my back while my bass was on my back. All 200lbs of me! Full body weight right on top of my bass. Not a scratch! Bass was still in tune!

Possibly one of the best deals around on a good bag is to check your GC for leftover Invalid Link Removed...I've picked up two of them for $30 each. You have to ask tho, AFAICT...they don't have them out on display normally (these are bags that came factory w/Warwicks, and for whatever reason the buyer didn't want it).

I have a Sadowsky Portabag (which falls into the higher end category) and it is very durable (my bass was shipped in it, in a box with some foam peanuts). My 2nd Sadowsky (on a Fedex plane to me as I type) is also coming in a Portabag. With 2 portabags I will not need/use any of my other cases.

If I was touring I might look at something that could survive a serious impact/crushing.

Any hard case or gig bag is only as good as it is made. Some are awesome, some suck.
You can buy a hard case that is cheap and the hinges break in the first six months. You can buy a gig bag that will last you a lifetime and you can buy one that the zipper will rip on the first pull.

If you want a quality bag at a decent price get this:
Amazon.com: Godin VBGAC Performance Gig Bag (A4 & A5 Bass): Musical Instruments

It's tan, says Godin on it, and it's on sale. You can probably find a photo with google. These bags have actual side padding and offer great protection for a gig bag.

Those are great bags also and that is a great idea. I would guess many Warwick buyers would want a hard shell to protect their new baby.
