The 1958 re-issue gives the owner a unique aesthetic. That alone is worth a premium. Personally, I like it.

I get this thread is old, but I am pricing Hofners right now. The least expensive of the true German-Made models-The 500/1 Artist violin bass is currently about $2,300-$2,600 here in the U.S-Reverb and online stores. HOWEVER-Thomann IN Germany had it for $1,555+$65 UPS SHIP-Crazy right?
As much as I love my '64 500/1 which I bought for £175 back in 1988 and the prices now are out of many players grasp, & the CT 500/1 is also creeping up in price again pushing some buyers away which is a shame.
Yes production & wages costs have changed over the decades but for some players, they may still only be on a minimum wage job so again maybe just out of reach.
I honestly think that when McCartney passes the price for original 60's era 500/1's will just go daft, & whatever 60's 500/1's that Hofner are making now the price will increase.

Just got this baby-Could Not resist the price-German-Made Artist 500/1 for$1590+$65UPS and only $95 in Customs duty from Thomann in Bavaria.
