Are Schecter basses required for rock bands?

Schecter makes some quality stuff actually. I was surprised when I was out trying out some basses as to how good they felt. Really solid and great finishes. Even at the local GC's they didn't feel too bad. I eventually ended up with a Studio 5 and it's built like a tank and has a pretty good and versatile pre. If I ever have the extra funds to do so, I might get around to swapping out the EMG HZ pickups for something a bit less sterile, but for anything modern sounding, they do just fine.
They are not everyone's cup of tea for sure, they certainly market to a select segment, but they are a solid alternative to the typical industry standards.

Depends a lot on where you are. I'm about an hour from Nashville. Its a little rare to see much other than Fender Ps and J's and Music Man Stingrays there, but they do exist. Its a regional thing, not so much a conspiracy. What's a little odd is that being called Music City, the variety of what's available at retail here is staggeringly lame. Want a vintage Fender? A dozen places have you covered. Want something else? Good luck; you probably will have a long search and end up ordering it on the net.
I suppose you could play other genre stuff too with a Schecter. My Stargazer 4 is a solid bass indeed. Has certainly provided me with decent tones in demo recordings, although they are mostly rock/metal songs. Can't say about gig usage. I've grown to like the tone actually, offers nice contrast to my vintage sounding P.
Are they required...no. I've seen "Jazz basses" play metal and Ltd's play blues (kind of made me take a double take too when he brought that out)...some basses seem to do the trick better than others in certain styles and genres of music however in reality you can play pretty much any genre of music on pretty much any bass but of course it may sound different from bass to bass for both the good and bad.

Coincidence. I very rarely see bassists with Schecters, usually I only see guitarists with them. Also all of the bassists I have seen with Schecters have been in metal bands.
