Thinking about it, if I were on the road a lot - traveling for work & whatnot, I'd bring one with just to practice - but I don't care for them otherwise.

Here's mine: XM-2
Will never sell this one, gig it occasionally, but am mostly playing the Sadowsky nowadays.
Every time I do play this live, I'm reminded what a great sounding (and playing) instrument this is.
The most perfect neck, note to note, that I have ever experienced.

Sweet! Did you have to modify the neck endpiece for the B string? Since there is no nut per se, that would be a permanent mod? I'd like to try that tuning on mine if it doesn't require a mod. Those neck endpieces are hard to find and expensive.

I play reggae so that may be why it's my ultimate weapon![]()
My early 90s XM2A didn't require any mods when I strung it BEAD. I miss that bass...
I don't understand why more basses don't use a headless design. The balance of a headless instrument can be unbelievably good. I currently play and NS/Stick (NS=Ned Steinberger) It is headless and the balance is incredible. Move it to any position you want and it just stays there and that is with a regular guitar strap system (unlike the custom strap system on the original Steinberger basses.)
I still have an Ibby Axstar. Very nice bass, a bit dull sounding now to my ears. Served me well in the past though.Hey guys, I actually wanted to get myself a Steinberger and then I saw the prices on eBay....the fact they all use special strings actually really rubs me the wrong way too. But the idea of a lightweight headless bass with two humbuckers rubs me the very right way, so I searched for other options, one of them being the Ibanez Axstar bass:

Supposedly it can use standard strings which I really like and they go for cheap on Ebay, does anyone have any experience with these basses? I really like Ibanez anyway so getting another Ibanez would actually be nice.

And yes, able to use regular strings.
the new Bassplayer has a cover story with Cliff Williams (ac/dc) he had one but never liked the look of it - so he "took the guts out" and placed them inside a Fender Precision. who knows why but that's what he said.Particularly the L/XL...or have they gone by the wayside? Thing of the past?
Regular Ibanez pups. I'm going to get it out Monday and check how it sounds with fresh XL190's through my GB rig.Stock pickups or upgraded to EMG's?
I recently saw an XQ here in the classifieds and it really intrigued me. I may keep my eye open for another one since that one sold. I do agree Im not sure why more designers dont use the headless system, they balance so much better. I would love a headless Ric (like someone here on TB built) or a headless Wal (a Walberger!) THAT would be awesome!
