At the airport customs in London, the customs guy insisted I play it to illustrate that it wasn't a weapon and that I really played bass. The gig bag did look like it was a rifle
Yeah, I got stopped by some Transit cops when I entered a NYC subway station with my Steinberger L-2 back in the late 1980s. They very quickly agreed that it wasn't a rifle once I opened the case, but I actually had to pluck a few notes to satisfy them because when I said "It's a bass guitar" they only got more suspicious!
I still have my L-2 that I got new in 1982; it doesn't get used all that often, but when it does it's perfect. I'll never get rid of that bass. Brilliant design, incredible sound. Stupid looking as all hell.
