Are used strings useful to anyone?

My brother in-law uses them to build star wars dioramas. I'll bring him a set this weekend...who am I to judge

I got rid of bunch of old strings here on TB. Just asked for shipping and someone bought them. So yes, they are useful to people.

Some municipal recycling services can’t take strings because they’re plated or alloys — worth double-checking locally so one doesn’t contaminate the recycling stream.

I’ve donated old strings here: Jewelry hand made from repurposed, used guitar strings.

Join the D'Addario Players Circle (it's free). There's a program there for you to send in your used strings to a recycling place (they pay the freight and you need to have at least 2 lbs of strings to send in). In turn, D'Addario gives you points to use for purchases on their website.

This is a very good program, just note that: “This program is currently open to residents living in the continental US.”

I recycle mine. It's very bad for the environment to toss them in the trash. Some music stores will take them and recycle them through the manufacturer. Oh and also, I think it's totally ridiculous to sell used bass strings on TB. Just my opinion.

I figured that out the hard way! Selling my used strings was not easy. One set sold here on TB, I traded one set locally, and the rest are getting recycled.

I use the D’Addario program; it’s worked well as is super easy. I collect strings from friends and family and send them a box about once a quarter.

I also keep a couple older sets for emergency use, but after I have accumulated about 3 old good sets at a time, I donate them to the local schools where they have music lessons and teach music for kids around the 13-16 age group (secondary high school) here in Aust. I know that all local schools keep 3 bass guitars for the students to be taught bass skills and they accept the strings with much appreciation. My son who is a music teacher (plays trumpet) suggested I do that..donate to the schools in the area who have music classes/lessons in their curriculum.
