Are You A Brand Loyalist?

For as long as they are loyal to me - yes. Why wouldn't you be?

You can never serve the fickle, ADD consumer for the longer term, but for those of us who take the extra time to go beyond the ad, we can be loyal customers for life if you stay on your game.

Hmmm, let me see. Bass brands I've owned: Fender, Gibson, Yamaha, Ibanez, Lakland, N. Zaganin (Bazilian), Godin, Marleaux, several no-names, etc., etc.... No, no particular brand loyalty.

Amplifiers/cabs I've owned: Fender, Sunn, Ampeg, Bergantino, Tecamp, Walter Woods, Kalamazoo, Euphonic Audio, Acoustic, Jule Amps, etc., etc... No, no particular brand loyalty.

I appear to like Musicman and G&L basses, though I've owned many different brands over the years. There are certain brands--well, maybe one certain brand--that I religiously avoid because of that brand's corporate behavior in the marketplace. Sometimes that makes it hard and/or more expensive for me, but it makes me feel better about myself.

Yes and no. I find that there are brands that I've had good luck with and others that I haven't. When I've had a good experience, I'll go back to the well for the next like item I want/need. When I've run into adverse situations, I'll avoid the brand.

Depends on one's definition of "loyalist" I guess - do I stick with literally ONE brand? No...but, I have been around the block enough times to kinda know the brands that work for me, and what I like.

I currently own three USA Peaveys, and a Jackson (made in Indonesia.) I would definitely consider myself something of a loyalist to USA Peavey stuff (basses anyways, don't own any amps) and would like to add a few more to the arsenal - at a minimum a Millennium, and/or Millennium Plus.

I don't currently own any Yamaha basses, but I am a "general loyalist" when it comes to Yamaha - by which I I mean, if they manufacture ANY type of product, I'd consider buying it. Example - if I were to get into motorcycles, or if I needed to buy, say, a generator, or an outboard engine. In my experience Yamaha makes ONLY top-notch gear.

Getting back to basses, though, I'll give almost any make/model a fair shake. I'm sure some will laugh, but what I am currently lusting for is a cherryburst Samick/Valley Arts 5-string PJ...:thumbsup: :bassist: :hyper:

No. I do tend to accumulate numerous items from the same manufacturers, though. I have three Fender Precisions and two Rickenbackers out of thirteen basses. Most are mutts or rescue projects. If an instrument has the potential to bring something unique or pleasant to the table, it probably ends up coming home. There are so many variations of great instruments out there that I think you limit yourself to stick with only one brand. If you want to sound like Jack Bruce did in Cream, but will only own Fender basses, you may be in trouble. Even the '70's humbucking Tele basses didn't quite capture the same sound. Close, but no cigar.

I noticed that people were listing non music related brand loyalties. So I figured that I would list that I'm very brand loyal to hiking and backpacking gear, far more so than basses.
Merrell boots They're the only brand that consistently has hiking boots in my size that are actually in stores not just online.
Kelty Backpacks Affordable and durable, my first Kelty backpack lasted 15 years of hard use. I've since bought two more.

I love genius, good design, function, playability, ergonomics and quality.
So, I am not loyal to brands, as these qualities always tend to turn up in new places/brands or whatever
Sold my MM Stingray in -81 to get a Steinberger L2....
