Are you a "sensitive person"?

At heart, I'm reasonably sensitive. Though outward displays can be a different story, depending on the situation.

I get irritated with people being emotional and it makes me less sensitive toward them the more emotional they get. Whether folks are bawling about their problems or bouncing up and down with excitement, it just doesn't resonate with me. I'm kind of like a damper in that way. :hmm:

I'm more sensitive when I'm not being depended upon to be. My more dramatic associates think I'm emotionless.

Empathetic Hulk? I thought Hulk was just angry.

I'm in tune with my emotions. I just don't go around turning other people's tuning keys to harmonize. I try not to let them turn mine either. That's why I don't fly off the handle when some idiot flips me off in traffic.

My flaw is that I unintentionally expect others to be as reserved as I am. :hmm:

A) Inverse Empathetic Hulk is still available as a band name. You're welcome.

B) That's where the "inverse" part of "inverse empathetic hulk" comes into play. Other people are susceptible to your gamma radiation accelerated reservedness. They become more emotional in your cool presence.

"You wouldn't like me when I'm calm."

LMAO!

Oh, okay. :D That's certainly true of my ex girlfriend. The calmer and more matter-of-fact I was when she was having a meltdown, the bigger the meltdown became. One time I gave her the Deadpan of Doom (I didn't move a single muscle) and she almost spontaneously combusted.

This actually has been my strategy against unreasonable people for a while now. The more you give them the impression that their rage is of minimal consequence to you, the angrier they seen to get. I have monosyllabic'ed my way under the skin of what turned out to be some very furious people.

Yes. I cried watching Notting "%$#&^#" Hill for god sakes.

But I am very caring, and in tune with my emotions.

Ha, I cry about 2-3 times a day just from something I see on TV. A commercial featuring a loving father and a cute kid, a family torn apart by some tragedy in the news, you name it. I cried for weeks after reading "Where the Red Fern Grows." I cried watching "A Bronx Tale." "Finding Nemo...." Women's olympic team in the 2012 Summer Olympics...

Ok, this is embarrassing, but I got misty watching a video of Heart performing Stairway To Heaven for the remaining members of Zep at the Kennedy Honors. If you haven't heard Ann Wilson singing Zeppelin, I must say it is a pretty f'ing moving experience. Anyway, in the vid, they continually cut to the members of Zep as the song is being performed. When they showed Robert Plant tearing up, that got to me a little bit. That's emotional stuff in my book. I highly recommend if you haven't seen it yet to YouTube it, it's so worth it.

Reminds me of a funny quote from a friend of mine who categorized sensitive people into two groups: the Jackson Browne "Eff me I'm sensitive" and the Elvis Costello "Eff YOU I'm sensitive!" I'm definitely in the latter group. (Hope this passes moderator muster.)

I've seen it several times, and I agree.

I'm willing to bet you are a great dad and husband.

I need to know what the interpretation of "sensitive" is as regarded by most.....

Just because a person blubbers uncontrollably at the slightest provocation does not necessarily mean they are sensitive.......it could be that they are just fragile wimps.....

If a narcissist cries a lot......it may mean that the only thing they are sensitive to is their own needs not being met......

or a person could cry a lot because they are clinically depressed.......

and then again....some people feel good when they are miserable......

Some people are mawkish and/or nostalgic to the extreme......a good cry goes with the territory for them.....

and there are those that always feel sorry for themselves....and cry a lot in affirmation of their self-plight...

Crying is currently "in" right now.........and most newscasts on any given night will feature somebody breaking into sobs while relating a story......

Im not heartless but im not all that sensitive. One thing that does choke me up a hair is that part in Armageddon at the end when the kid says something like look mom its that man or your friend and she says thats your dad.

If were talking sensitive to other people's feeling, yes i am. I believe so anyway. I've had my selfish moments here and there but i think i've gotten better. Also there ARE moments in life where a bit of selfishness is the right thing to do. You dont have to be an *******, but you shoudn't step on your own feelings (all the time anyway) just because youre sensitive to other peoples needs and feelings. Sometimes there's a me or them aspect to life that can't be avoided, and sometimes you have to pick you.

If were talking sensitive like i get hurt easily by other people, no. I don't generally "take things the wrong way", i don't need to be handled with kid's gloves. I can be hurt sure but you have to really be aiming at the right spot and probably be deliberate about it. And certainly online it's even harder to push my buttons. Ultimately when it comes from people who barely know you, what does it really matter? I have to say though about 15 years ago when i first started hanging out on forums and such, i wasn't quite like that, you build a shell but mainly grow up and realise it doesn't really matter.

If we're talking sensitive like cries easily at movies and such and get emotionally involved in them, well yes, even movies that i think are ****ing stupid and bad, nevermind manipulative. Though generally i keep away from those but sometimes you find yourself in situations where they cant be avoided (thankfully my gf isn't into such films, but i mean with family or when i'm a guest somewhere) There's a certain thing about sappy music and people crying that i pavlovly respond to, in spite of myself. There's been moments when i think "i can't believe this **** made me cry, what is wrong with you!?!?". A lot of the music i love tends to make me cry fairly easy too. I'm definitely not a man afraid of crying or of my feelings. Though i dont go around breakign down crying at everything either.

When it comes to movies, Terminator 2 still gets me emotionally wrapped up in it. I might not cry, but you'll get a damn dirty look if you make light of that movie while I'm feeling it.

That makes two of us.

I watched Terminator 2 last weekend for the 1000th time. :D

I get orgasms when the Terminators throw each other into walls, yet I almost cry when T-800 descents into its permanent shutdown. And that last gesture it makes...wow... It just, there's dust in my eye...:bawl:
