Personally, I'd like to borrow someone's organs to stay alive (provided they are done using them, of course).

I have an 18 month old daughter. Until she's an adult at least, I'd like to be around for her if at all possible.

It would be pretty selfish of me to not wish to explore any options that might present themselves (should they be needed) to keep me alive for my family.

But that's me.

I'm sure I wont need them where I going. Besides, what if I come back as a zombie. They'll just start decaying and make me all smelly. Well, except for the eyes. That would suck. I think even as a zombie eyes would be good to have. I may have to rethink this whole donor thing. Thanks for the wonderful thread.

You need to let it be known then, especially from your family.
Otherwise you're considered a donor by default.

For the donors, the common answer is "I don't need them after I'm dead".

For the non-donors, they all "have their reasons".

Could you elaborate? If not, that's fine. I just wanted to see your train of thought on the issue.

I will be glad if I can save lives this way.

I believe what we are saying is, we have no use for them any longer, but I'm sure someone else will benefit from them. Pretty simple really.

It's like saying "I won't need these clothes after I outgrow them, so I can donate them to Good Will."

Someone who doesn't throw them away or donate them can say "Well my sister will have a kid soon, so if it's a boy he can use it." or something along those lines.

I'm interested in knowing the reasons people don't donate.

If the thought of donating them makes you feel creepy, explain why.

You need to let it be known then, especially from your family.
Otherwise you're considered a donor by default.

I wouldnt compare shirts with my own body-.- Theres a huge difference, and i find people make such comparements to often.
I guess for me its because im a bit skeptical about everything. We dont know what happens after death etc, possible effects on not having some organs etc. I know it sounds probably silly and stupid, but thats how iam. Who knows what effects could be caused by someone else having your organs:O Im kinda like a pack rat. I keep things that i probably dont need at the moment "just in case". That doesnt apply to clothes and such things though. "Just in case" would describe it well.

Tho, im not entirely 100% i wont donate either. If there was someway to choose whom you gave em too id probably do it. But thats not an option. Theres also the thing that i dont really appreciate most humans these days. Some guy who i would have really hated might end up with them. I probably come of as a jerk or something to you, but what can i say? Id glady donate my outgrown clothes though.

I would like to hear the explanation as well. Personally I think it a selfish thing not to donate. For instance, if someone is dieing from a failing kidney. "sorry, it makes me feel creepy" is not a good enough reason to let someone die. Especially if you're already dead. Sorry, but you don't feel anything after you're dead.

That's just me though.

Its funny to see how everyone says Death is gonna be like this and that. Theres infinite possibilities of what could happen, things probably beyond our understanding.

There is no "maybe".

You either agree or you don't. If you aren't sure but haven't signed the organ donor card yet, then it's a "no" because you could die at any moment.

I don't know much about other religions. Thinks like reincarnation and the like. But if donating your organs after you die is bad, then what happens to all amputees or war veterans? Or people just born without an arm or something?
