I also have a problem telling people I'm good. It just seems like a weird thing to say. That said, I'm never short of compliments from people telling me I'm great after gigs, and whenever I look out into our audiences there are always more people doing air bass than any other instrument Then again, it doesn't hurt that I probably play with some of the best guitarists and the best drummer in Knoxville for our age bracket. They definitely help me sound better lol.

The problem with that is a lot of people don't really know the difference and if you say you suck they are apt to take your word for it.

I usually say "Well, I've never been fired and I make money". What I'd like to do is say "I'm good, but not as good as that guy! Man, he ROCKS"! And then I point to a total stranger who doesn't look like a musician at all! One day I'll do it and it will get me in trouble.

Yep. Nothing is better than having the guys in your band give high praise about you to others in the audience. The guitarist in my main band is one of the top three here in Fresno, and though it's a great feeling when I hear it, I do get a little embarrassed when he tells other people what a great musician I am. It is just strange because I don't see myself on the same level as him.

Unless the drummer is insanely awesome....in which case I just say I suck.

I think a lot of players don't realize how important of a factor that is. I wouldn't consider myself in the same league as my guitarists or drummer, but they all love working with me and have told me that they wouldn't want to work with anyone else in their projects.

I just give them a few of the CD's that I am on and tell them to judge for themselves.

Depends on who's asking. If they are just kinda conversationally asking, I'll just say "I get by." If they are kinda being rude, I'll look them right in the eyes and say "ya", then ignore them.

People usually tell me I'm fun. I'm good enough to look like I'm enjoying myself, and that's what people seem to pick up on.

Then you're good. Anytime players, no matter how good they are, want and enjoy playing with you, that's what makes you good. So next time someone asks you if you're good, say yes with complete confidence.

You don't have to be arrogant or cocky about it, but confidence goes a looong way.

Just tell um; "Not a lot walk out, and we get asked to come back. Yea, we are pretty good" and brush it off. Only a durk would ask a question like that and any answer you gave would be over their head anyway.

LOL ....that's how i respond to the "can you sing" question ....well no one leaves the bar and they all seem to have a pretty good time!
