I had a huge statement typed up about why I'm unhappy. But I just can't bring myself to introduce negative vibes into this thread.
Reading through it made my day a little better.

Venting might help, I doubt it would bring the thread down. Perhaps someone might have a postive spin to your problems, if not some sort of solution.
Got one Tuesday. Funny thing is, it's with a band I've never played with before and I don't even know what we're suppose to be playing. Should be fun!
Yeah this was a bit extreme in that the work from home is COMPLETELY gone and off the table. I would have thought that at least it would be allowable as a once in awhile thing. We've been doing it for 4 years now and boom. Gone.
Now, we had a record year in terms of customer satisfaction, the company has stated that this wfh program is saving the company money, so WHY is it being ended?
Simple. New boss.
She wants to make some "tough calls", look strong and in charge...
just guessing because it otherwise defies logic that you would destroy employee morale, force some into leaving their jobs because they've moved too far away to commute, and cost the company more money. And what pray-tell will she get in return?

There was a time when every gig I did was like that. Luckily it was an improv band. Never knew which person was going to flake, never knew what drummer was going to show up, never knew what the hell we were going to play... youre right, it was a lot of fun!
Can't you get a group of your fellow employees together and say, "No, we're not doing this." If you guys were hitting records working from home as opposed to working in the office it would seem irresponsible for the new boss to come in and go back to the old ways.
Actually, if your boss has a boss (and let's be honest, who doesn't) I'd go straight to him or her and voice your concerns with whatever facts you have backing your claims that you all do in fact perform better at home. You boss might get overruled.
Well, this is what perplexes me. WHY would she be allowed to do this?
We asked and got some sort of bs response about "working face to face with the other groups to raise our performance and teamwork to a whole new level.." It's crap.

I always hate how people feel nervous to express their feelings because it goes again the thread's popular opinion. The thread (and title) are clearly meant to encourage expression no matter what your state of mind. With that, I understand.
Feel free to PM it to me if you want an opinion.

Not that I'm more qualified than anyone, but that's the main reason I'm grumpy. I've been unemployed long enough that I'm sure my apps get thrown out in screening because HR thinks, "if he hasn't been hired in that long, there must be something wrong. Let's not even bother reading the vitae or interviewing him."
The extended unemployment let me burn through my savings and, after years of independence, move back to my parents', which is fine since I can help out my dad who's wheelchair-bound and visually impaired, but of course caretaking, particularly with the elderly as they deteriorate, is stressful and often depressing in itself. And I'm living in a small rural town, where there's just not much going on that I'm interested in. Outside of making my own fun on the computer, bass, or soldering iron, there's nothing that matches my interests and all my local friends just binge drink and hit on the local ladies with 6 teeth and just as many kids (no stab at the folks who love having enough kids to start a band--I just feel a bit young to throw myself into something like that).
So pretty much: no cash, no social or emotional support, and the depression that comes from inactivity, boredom (though I try to go out and do productive things every day), and being single in a small town where most of the kids got knocked up and married by 17.
Then, at the end of the day, I think of all the advantages I have in my education, family, health, etc. and realize that I'm actually better off than the vast majority of people in the world. Except, instead of making me feel better, that makes me feel 10 times worse lol.
July was probably better than most of the last year and a half though. I'm finishing up a (sub-poverty level, but good looking on resume) "paid-volunteer" job application as I cruise TB, and have a wonderful connction at the NPO that offers it. I even dropped a painful $50 for a non-degree graduate application at the area university so that I could take a night class each semester to make me more hire-able (I'm looking for jobs in higher ed., so late spring/summer is the big hiring season for fall classes).
It does feel good to vent. It also feels good to read about other people's good news and happy dispositions. Plus, even if I'm pretty profoundly unhappy from day to day, I'm still a closet optimist and hold out a little bit of hope that things will improve. You can bet that, as soon as I get some good news, I'll be sharing it with TB. Hey hey, if I get a steady paycheck sometime here, I can actually sign on as a supporting member.

That wasn't my reasoning so much as I saw the thread as a very positive thing, and thought turning that around might be detrimental to all the good it was providing for everyone.

As to the OP, he'll yes! I live at he beach, walk 150 ft to my office (which means I have the world's most valuable perk.....I never have to crap in a public bathroom!)
