I'm kinda pseudo-ambi. I don't quite know which-handed I am until I try it...to determine whether strength or dexterity is more important. I have most of my dexterity in my right side, but strength in my left. I've found this to be particularly apparent in sports. I bat and throw lefty, shoot a pick and kick a ball from the left side, and open jars for my wife with my left hand. I write, start IVs, and do other medical skills right-handed.

My first bass teacher showed me how to play right-handed and said after I get over the weird feeling, I'd thank him someday. Thank you, Guy Tardo!! Although lefty players look pretty cool, I'd rather have a great selection of basses (and teachers) from which to choose.

I like playing righty!

(and teachers)?:eyebrow: If you did play lefty you might find out that learning from other players or teachers is simply so easy it's one of the best parts of being lefty. When a teacher (who frankly shouldn't care if you play lefty or righty) holds the neck up to you to show you something your neck is like a mirror image. You both will be pointing your necks in the same direction even though you are facing each other and fingering the same. Learning or copying a lick is like looking in the mirror and makes it a sinch to copy or reproduce. Not sure why righty is an avantage to a teacher unless they are small minded or wants you to be the same as them?

I've had righty teachers for years, and I find it's easier to have the same hand in common, rather than mirrored. I suppose it's something that can be overcome, but...to each his (her) own.
