Are you too proud to apologize?

'Never say you're sorry. It's a sign of weakness.'

I don't know who Gibbs is, but he stole that line from John Wayne.

They are both wrong. Just the opposite is the truth. Humility is the true measure of greatness,
and don't mistake humility for weakness either. Neither mean you don't stand your ground or assert yourself when you are right, just that you have enough character (strength ) to admit limitations or failure.

I had an incident yesterday where someone mistook something for a backhanded compliment, when it wasn't intended as such.

Instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, insults & name-calling ensued.

I don't have time for people who can't apologize.
Some people say it's a good measure of a man, not his mistakes, but his ability to realize those mistakes and take responsibility for them.

Did you apologize for saying something in a way it could be easily misconstrued, or did you simply expect the other party to apoligize to you?

The "with all due respect" tag means what it says. Most of the time it seems insulting because the target is not due any respect. I also despise when someone famous makes a public apology. Own your words and have a spine.

Having said all of that, if you're in the wrong, own that too. Apologize when it is sincere.

One of my favorite shows is N.C.I.S....Over the years, main character Gibbs has often repeated his credo 'Never apologize' or 'Never say you're sorry. It's a sign of weakness.'

I always think not owning up to your mistake is proof of weakness.

I do not apologize if I do not mean it. If I am genuinely sorry I will apologize.
You gott mean it, but if you are wrong and do not apologize, you hurt yourself as well as the other party because you are not willing to learn from your mistakes. Mistakes are the best teacher, if you can recognize them and learn from them.
