I'd be insulted at that but you don't realize I work with electronics all day and my bass building/luthier skills have been captured here in spades. I was referring to someone buying a Geddy bas - why buy a perfectly good bass and then swap necks immediatly, just buy it already done. Or the person who buys a PAOLO GREGOLETTO - if they like the look and sound, why should they spend the time cobbling parts together? Ditto for a JEff Berlin or countless other instruments. And generally the cost upgrade is only 5-10%. 90% of the folk here don't even OWN a $1500 instrument, let alone spending $1500 for a switch.well, paying an extra 1500 for a "stock" additional switch or neck profile is not making yourself a favour
No luthiers where you live?
I am the only person I personally know who has changed a neck profile...most others have thought me insane for doing that.
Not sure how buying because there is a players name on an instrument is much different than buying because there is a manufacturer's name on it. Ooooooh, you got a:
(Michael) Tobias,
(Leo) Fender,
(Dan Lakin/Hugh McFarland)Lakland.
(Stuart) Spector, yada,yada.
So you are just a lame follower - deal with it sonny
[Edit]How can there be a correlation between instrument choice and personalities when the range of personalities that play them are so varied? Everyone from stoners to cops play Fender.[end of edit]
I think threads and posts show more about personalities than instruments. Once a troll thread always a troll thread.
