Mesa TT-800 with 2 Subway 1x15 matched stack and a Quilter BB-800 with GR Bass Aerotech 212 Slim. Will be getting a combo version of the 212 Slim hopefully soon.

I match brands for rigs... my Subway D800 has 2 Subway cabs (112 & 212), my Ampeg PF350 has 2 Ampeg 112 cabs. Although my THD head is an orphan so goes with any cab, not that it gets much use these days.

I play a Tech21 over Hartke cabinets.

The Tech21 head was something I was looking for: sound & features.

The Hartke stuff is because of a friend in the business and gets the deals.

Always loved the speaker design and punch.

Very happy with the look and sound.

I think I've only had a matching rig twice. The first was all Peavey because I was a new, younger player and a friend was selling it for $200. (Century head over 215 JBL loaded cab) The second would have been 20 years later and all Epifani. (UL502 head over a pair of T112NYCs)

Generally though, I find there to be a short list of builders that can really hold to the top tier in both categories so currently stick with Bergantino cabs and pair them with a head that suits me.

Considering all the gear I've played through over the last 44 years, some matched, some not, this rig is up there at the top of the list. Just the fact that it's modern, puts it near the top of the list for me. But there's a lot more to it than that.

The cabs, 44.5 lbs each.
The head, 6.5 lbs
And the 15s are tighter, more responsive(faster), than the 15s of yesteryear.
The head is more responsive to my "right" hand than anything I have ever had before it. It rewards you for digging in when you want to get dirty, or it can ring like a bell.

With both cabs, the head, and a bass, I can unload from the car in two trips and set up, 10 mins tops.
As far as sound goes, this thing has tone for days. Anything I could want this rig offers. It may be the best sound I've ever had. I know it sounds pretty damn good in the mix. And power, cabs are rated at 8 ohm/400 watts rms each. Head is 800 watts at 2 & 4 ohm / 400 watts @ 8 ohm. I don't see my power needs ever exceeding this, but I have gotten to push it in a live mix to about 3/4 throttle with a lot of gain thrown in there. And it never broke a sweat.

Did I want matching Mesa Cabs? You betcha. But at the time I needed a new rig and none of my buying options had any Mesa cabs, and only two of them had any heads at the time. Maybe next year I'll buy a Markbass head and two Mesa cabs.

Until then, this will just have to do.

I COMPLETELY second you, Clark W. I use Mesa D800+ with Bergantino cabinets. That head allows me to go from sweet whisper to Entwistle-ian scream just with right hand alone. No need for pedals. The HPF is soooo useful too!

Sometimes. There’s no pattern or preference for me. If a system is of the right configuration and heft, and it brings the tone, what else matters? The matching of brands among components is very much a cosmetic exercise.

This is my only matching pair. My other cabs are currently both bergantino, my amps are ampeg, verellen, EA, sound city, and some home made stuff. I’ve had gear from a ton of different brands, always went with what sounded best irrespective of manufacturer.
