Are your cab and amp the same brand?

I recently picked up a new Mesa WD-800 head and have been searching for a cab to go with it. I know the correct answer is to get whatever sounds best… But for now I’m just curious how many of you have mismatched brands for your amp and cabinet combo? I don’t know why but it bothers me a bit to think of getting a different brand cab (prob ocd lol), but then I also know I’m limiting myself by not exploring all tonal options. So I’m just sort of curious how prevalent it is for mismatches. Thanks!

I did the mismatched thing for 40 years. That stopped a little over 10 years ago when I came across Eden gear.

So over the last 10 years I’ve accumulated a lifetime supply, and a younger repair tech reasonably close by that has experience working with them. Good thing as from what I understand they are under a “re-org” (the highest bidding firm that picked up the remaining inventory for pennies on a dollar for resale with no intentions of manufacturing) after being divested from Marshall.

Matchy matchy for me.

I mix and match, years ago I purchased a Berg HS410, based on reading everything on Talkbass, over time I realized the cab had it's unique voicing, which I liked, and this was very apparent after several amps, now, I use the cabinet as my baseline, in judging amps, yes it's old & heavy, but it's paid for, and I know it sonic territory, here's some of the pairings with the HS410, and some other pairings of amps & cabs over the years, using a NV610 and the Aguilar DB112x2, I might add, the tone/sound in a bedroom setting can and will be different at the gig, so one needs to carefulin choosing a combination of amps & cabs ....... enjoy the amp & cab porn:laugh:

My kit is mismatched. Although, I admit, I will eventually be getting a second set in the form of a Mesa SW 112/115 pair of cabs. For now, I am LOVING the DNA cabs and they’re not going anywhere. This past year the WD800 saw three gigs and the GM800 saw two on top of the DNA cabs with plenty of dB to spare. Notable point, four of those gigs were outside and everyone from the venues reported that they could hear me clearly.

If you’re going for a very specific type of sound you might look at cabs that claim to offer that. With that said, in your case unless you are looking for something really specific, matching your cab to your amp will be hard to beat. I haven’t heard the 210 or 410, but the subway 112 and 115 cabs are incredible. Like I said unless you just have a super specific type of sound you are looking for, the subway series is going to blow you away.

I've always gigged using a 300 watt GK Backline head on a 4 ohm Avatar 4x10 cab. The rig has always been loud enough to keep up with loud bands and it sounds good to me. The only problem is that the cab weighs 85 pounds.
